6.2 miles again, I do love running before work but it would be nice to not have to do it alone all the time. I need a running partner...

No running for me today, tropical storm Andrea chased me back to bed. Getting to work is going to be a treat for sure.

So glad YESTERDAY was National Running Day...

A buddy in my running club is also doing that event. He's Navy though. You rival service members play nice, you hear?
Which base is your buddy stationed at? My son is stationed at Oceana, I should have him look into that race. He's done some trail racing with me over the years and loves the idea of the obstacle races.

He's up around me, in NoVa. I'm not sure his exact duty station - either the Pentagon or the Washington Navy Yard, most likely. He's traveling down to Va. Beach for the race. As a runner, he makes me chuckle, because he also lifts too, and has a pretty big chest and upper body, much more so than your typical runner. Despite all the extra muscles he's lugging around, he's darn quick - 5K PR in the low 19's. When he comes barreling down the road during a race, he reminds me of the Incredible Hulk on a rampage!

Thanks. Just checked the official results (was basing my time off my watch before) and they gave me two extra seconds (1:38:52). I'll take 'em!

1:42 is still a great time, but finishing @6:30 for the last two miles?!?! Wow, that's quite a kick! Impressive. I know how you feel about pacing. I'm still learning my best paces, but my problem is usually the opposite of yours - starting out way too fast, and dying at the end. In my first half ever, I added 1:20/mile for the last three miles - it was a complete crash and burn! Live and learn.

4.3 the other night. First run since the half-marathon on Memorial Day.

Yeah, when I first raced, I always went out to fast and died at the end. Don't know why but for Boston and this race, I started out too slow. Need to work on my pacing b/c I'm leaving too much in the tank.

+6.2.

10km trail race this morning will have results tomorrow. Was a blast, ungroomed super narrow mountain bike trail, barely any room for passing. Also more rapid succession switch backs then you could shake a stick at. Not too hilly until the last half mile it was about 6-7 uphill switchbacks then the last hundred yards was straight up a 6-7% grade sledding hill. Was a pretty fun course.

Love it, TraumaRN. That's my kind of terrain.

7.5 miles today on the trails at the state park. I rounded down all week long, so I'm gonna add 8. Was very hot again.

I think you'd have loved it. I was in a pack of about 6-7 on the last uphill half mile and ended up blowing past all of them. All my recent hillwork training paid off today.

Thinking about and watching the end of the race even though it was just 10km that last uphill with the numerous switchbacks up a sledding hill was a pretty cruel way to finish a race. I watched numerous people completely bonk out doing that. It definitely was mentally crushing for a few people I noticed. Like I said makes me glad I've been doing more hill work.

My first trail race ever was a 15 miler in the Rochester, NY area. The last half mile was horrible, it's called Cardiac Hill and you literally have to haul your ass up by roots and tree limbs. And then a slight descent to the finish but it is rooty as hell. These RDs are sadistic. lol
