+2 miles running the sun baked 90F+ sand hills at Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, was fun but 2 miles felt like 6 or 7. I even snagged a photo!

Then did 10 miles today on the North Country Trail, was beautiful, hilly, and damp. Rained last night so the trail was muddy and had to dodge a couple trees that got knocked down in the storm, saw 2 deer, multiple turkeys, a porcupine and a red fox. Also snagged a slightly blurry photo on one section of trail I thought was most representative of the majority of the section I ran on.

Trauma, you run in some pretty places! Nice pics. I need to do more trail runs. My son's cross country team is doing a runathon fundraiser on Sunday, and think they're running on trails in a local national forest for that. I may tag along just to get off the pavement for a day.

For various reasons, it's been all dreadmill this week for me, so I'm not posting those "miles". Hopefully I can finally get a run outside tonight!

How big is bigger? Be careful out there! Around these parts, bears are smaller and extremely rare. There are more snakes, but the copperhead is the only truly deadly one prominent to these parts, and they're still pretty rare. Not much in the way of animal hazards in VA while trail running.

I've been told it was probably an unnaturally large bobcat. But florida panthers and jaguars are moving back into the area finally and I have seen those tracks before.

At this park, I've seen bear prints and scat, the cat prints, had encounters with rattlesnakes, gators, hogs, and coral snakes. And then there's all the non-lethal critters that are all over the place. It's pretty wild.

I'm glad in michigan we have very few large dangerous critters on the trails. The worst is bears in the northern parts of michigan but otherwise nothing.

Anyways the heat has returned! +5 miles of hill work in the hot sun...at least there was a nice breeze.

I was scouting a trail near my parent's place in the TC area last year and saw several sets of bear tracks. Needless to say I boogied out of there and stuck to the roads that day.

I like the idea of the wildlife being out there. It makes me stay focused knowing that I could round a corner and be face to face with a herd of wild pigs or have to hurdle a rattlesnake (both happened this summer). Plus it makes things much more exciting.

lol, the occasional dog off leash is enough wildlife for me. If I saw a rattlesnake in the path I'm pretty sure I would (a) cry a little bit and (b) turn around and go the other way.

Normally I'd turn right around, and I have. But this last time I didn't see the snake in time to stop. It was either hurdle the snake or step on it - so I jumped for my life.
