4.2 miles tonight. Holy crap was it cold and windy.
Says the guy in FL?!?

I know that the Polar Vortex is affecting most all of us. But really, how cold is it where you are running?

I think it was 5 or 6 degrees when I ran this morning in NY. I'll update my mileage at the end of the week.

It was about 40F, but compared to what I'm used to it was frigid. I lived in NY and ran outside every day of the year until March of 2012, including during the winter. I guess in the last 2 years my blood has thinned out, and I like it that way. My heat will be back soon, 80s by the time the weekend gets here.

I hear you. I can't imagine looking forward to running in the 80's. I think maybe the 50's or 60's is my sweet spot. The least amount of sweating without it being cold. I look forward to the day, sometime after retirement, where I can move someplace that'll thin my blood. Who knows, maybe I'll be a snow bird.

I still broke a sweat even at 6 degrees. Just not rearly as much as when it's 30 degrees. I ran with a fleece neck warmer that I'd pull up over my mouth and nose when the wind wasn't at my back. After my 2 mile run, I stop in and grab my dog to take her for her morning walk. By the time I got up the block (literally, 1 block), I pulled the neck warmer over my face and found that the part that had been over my mouth had frozen. Not solid, but certainly stiff. I'll have to put it on as soon as I leave the house today. No more waiting until I feel the cold. Previously, the coldest I had recorded running in was 13 degrees.

I remember those days, with balaclavas freezing up on me. I have pics of me with 6" earcicles and frost crusted soulpatch/eyebrows from being outside in the winter running. They are good memories for me actually. I think the coldest cold I ran in up in NY was close to 10F also, I guess I was lucky in that regard.

I am pretty glad I moved south when I did, I'm still young enough to enjoy the warmth and play outside a lot (44 y.o. soon).

I looked through my running logs - peaked out at 1700 miles in 2011, about half that in 2012, and about half that in 2013. (519) It is nice just to get out on the roads and run again though!

Mel, hit the trails! You'll love it. My son Ryan and I ran 5.1 miles on a winding, hilly dirt road back in through some orange orchards tonight. We got to see Disneyworld's fireworks show, really a neat run. I'm happy my warmth is back.

7.5 this morning, my first run outside in a couple of weeks. Still lots of ice out there but it felt good to be outside.

+5 Friday
+10 Sat.
+10 Sun. (Finally got to run outside as the temps got into the 50's, the rain stopped, and the ice melted! I'll run when it's below freezing, but not if it's icy - don't want to risk an injury. )
