Hurt my back on Thursday shoveling snow, had PT yesterday and felt good enough to do 10 miles running the Newton Hills back and forth, ran up and down Heartbreak Hill several times for good measure.

So you live right near the Boston course? That's pretty cool! How tough are those hills? I hope to run that race in 2015, and I hear they're tough.

+35 since last post (Would've been more, but my marathon on Sunday got canceled due to weather! Good thing it wasn't really a target race for me.)

Yeah, I live a little more than a mile from the course. On Saturday mornings, I meet-up with a group and we run the course in reverse. I haven't actually been back to Boylston St and the Finish Line since last April 15th til starting to do these long team runs.

The hills aren't really tough. They're four hills over the course of 4 miles in Newton with Heartbreak Hill being a .4 mile ascent and being the last hill. The thing is that during the marathon you don't hit them til mile 17 and you don't hit Heartbreak til mile 20.

But there are so many spectators rooting you on, you get a real lift. The only issue I found is that the course gets really narrow due to the all of the spectators at the hills and I had some runners feet ahead, just stop to walk and I had to dodge them so as not to run them over.

Based on the mileage you put in, I think you'd do fine. Outside of the hills, the course is mostly downhill and with spectators along the whole lenth of the course, they really keep you going.

A few pics from running this weekend, they don't give you a real perspective but gives you an idea what the road is like. Also note, the race is on the right road, the left road which we're training on is a carriage road that runs parallel.

That's pretty cool, to live right near the course! Thanks for the pics - doesn't look too bad at all. I hope to run the race in 2015, but I don't expect to "race" it - I want to enjoy the experience. I just don't want to embarrass myself, so anything under 4:00 will probably be a good run!

Ok guys, my next big race is lined up and confirmed. Link in sig, it's called the Lake To Ocean 100K. It's point to point, self supported, and it will be hot. This one will be a challenge.

Half marathon today around Grosse Ile in 45F(!!!!!) Bright sunshine and a slight breeze. Ran with my friend, we finished in 2:06. Clear dry pavement. It was utterly amazing.

P.S. Also amazing that less then 6 months ago I finished my first half marathon in 2:09:30 gasping for air and drained. Now 2:06 such as today is an 'easy' pace for me, I love it.

The course is pretty narrow which can cause a log jam for the first several miles and later when you reach the hills but besides that it's a damn awesome race. And yes, enjoying the experience and savoring every minute of it is what it's all about.

From the garage bands that are playing along the course in the first few towns to the Wellesley College 'Scream Tunnel' where you have to stop to hug and kiss the cute college girls to stopping for pics with friends, family and the gf to the BC students jumping the course to run with you for bit, it's just awesome having people cheering you on for the full marathon.

With fighting hip and now back issues, I'll just be happy with a sub-4 hours this year. Adding an additional 9k to the field isn't going to make it any easier for my time. Being at the Finish Line last year to witness the tragic event, I'm honored to be invited by the BAA to run this year.

Good luck, crazy ultrarunner! You've got to come up and do the JFK50 one of these days, and talk me into doing the same. I just want the sticker for my car!

Edit: Just looked up your 100K, and wow! 100K in June in the South! Drink up, Mega! After something like that, JFK in Nov. would be a piece of cake!

Isn't it great when your old milestones become routine distances/paces? Amazing indeed! Keep it up!

+26 on Fri./Sat./Sun. Got to run in shorts and 60 degrees! Of course it can't last - there's already more snow expected this week. But it was nice while it lasted.

4 miles this morning. Day 96 of my streak was not fluid but I ran mostly pain free. 10 miles in my Hokas yesterday in the bright sunshine took more out of me than I'd have figured.
