Yea, there's certainly room to drop a minute on the first third, so sub-54 is a good goal for next time. But you should always be happy about a new PR, especially when you take off such a huge amount of time!

Tell me your secret to negative splitting - lately I've been going out too hard on a lot of my runs and paying for it haha .

Had a breakthrough workout last night.

5x800m with 2 min recovery (2:37, 2:35, 2:35, 2:34, 2:34). I was far more consistent than my last track session, and my stride felt more controlled.

Legs were a little heavy from bumping the weights on Monday but I still had a bit left in the tank. It's a great feeling to break through a plateau on a down week, knowing that I'll be rested for the next hard cycle.

7 miles total, including warmup and cooldown.

Great job, IB! I'd be wiped out with times twice as long if I tried that, but now I'm gonna find a track and try that.

+3 after my workout today.

Thanks yelo! On my current program I'm on 3-week cycles so I only hit the track once every 3 weeks; the other two Tuesday sessions are hill repeats and tempos.

It's fun to get out there though. I'm a road runner now, but it reminds me of the old days when I was on the track 3 times a week rippin' off lap after lap...

12 miles. My stomach aches for some reason. It's been happening a lot lately making running far less fun. Oddly, my stomach didn't hurt after the 20 miler.

11 miles today. Felt kind of tired. Ran on the Lehigh Valley Trail and fought the deerflies, but they weren't as bad as at Mendon Ponds. Still, one bit me right on the spine. Bastard!! Mega, have you changed your eating habits at all lately? If not, maybe your body is just adapting to the higher training load. Make sure you listen to your body though.

I used some OFF! with DEET today and not one deerfly landed on me. They did still swarm my head though. I'll have to try putting some in my hair to see if that keeps them completely off me next time out.

I haven't changed my diet really, not that I can think of. I've been eating the same stuff for a long time. But it could be adaptation, I'm feeling more tired than I should. I've heard that digestive "issues" can occur also, and I'm having those too. Hopefully this stuff goes away quickly.

Oh and I blackened another toenail. Looks pretty.

OK, so a couple days ago, IB did this:

Just for fun, I wanted to see what my times were like. They were:

2:53 (this one felt solid)
3:09 (still feeling reasonable)
3:16 (nearing the vomit barrier)
3:28 (...)
3:40 (In my defense, it was ~84 degrees and sunny)

I'll give it another shot in a month. Anyway, +3 makes the current total

Anyone else going to try?

Sorry guys, but I was talking to an older runner at work today and all signs point to over training. I'm gonna take a few days off, ride my bike, and do some strength work. I hope to snap back quick, I need to keep working towards my ultra.

Awesome. Well, I give you props for giving it a go. The consistency could use a bit of work though lol

No joke, track intervals are probably the hardest workout you can do. I was dry-heaving and my legs felt like jello by the end but miraculously I was feeling much better after the cooldown.

Good idea! First we have to hit 10,000 though.

Now, out for your evening 10 miler, young Padawan .

7 miles including 15 min of up-tempo. Legs are still a bit whacked tonight from Tuesday's session. Tomorrow's a rest day though.

nice jobs, IB and yelo! I'm starting official marathon workouts next week (16 miles w 6 @ MP, 2x 3miles @ tempo, and maybe, if I feel up to it, 6x 800m. I doubt I'll be running my 800s as fast as you IB, but it will be interesting to see how they go if I do end up running them).

Today I just did an easy 10. About a mile in, a girl turned onto the road ahead of me, and she was going pretty quick. Maybe just a hair slower than me. Like, if I was doing a 7:00.00 mile, she was doing a 7:00.5. Then she stopped and tied her shoe and I caught up to her so when she started running I was maybe 10m behind her. She was going exactly my pace now and I couldn't but notice that she had really nice legs and a nice ass. But I didn't want her to think I was a creep so I sped up and passed her and said hi. But now of course, I can't pass her and then slow back down; what if she speeds up and passes me back? That would be awkward. So I kept a faster pace until I turned off that road and she kept going, but dang, she was quick! I know pretty much all the fast girls in this area, but I didn't recognize her. I'll have to keep an eye out for her at the races. Any girl that can do 7-flats has to be pretty quick! Anyway, now that story time is over, this brings us to 6984

I never see anyone like that out here. Lots of old couples biking and walking and a few serious runners that are all guys. It's probably all for the best, I'm an old married guy - I don't need to see anything like that out on the trails.
