No worries; I'm planning to extend the thread once we reach the first goal, similar to the pushups thread.

Planned on running 20 on Saturday but got food poisoning or a stomach bug friday night. Couldn't keep anything down besides Gatorade all weekend.

Forced out 4.4 miles just now.

How do you run for that long? I can't run for more than 4 miles at any one time before I get bored??

Just let your mind wander. I love long runs the best; when you get in the zone you can cover 20 miles without even realizing it. Strangely enough, though, I get bored to the point of exasperation after 5 minutes on a bike...

That's been my problem too. I get bored too easily. I've kind of just been pushing through it and now I just let my mind wander a bit. It's kind of nice to have some alone time

I also bring my iPod with me and have a mix of Liszt and Chopin that I like. It relaxes me and I almost fall asleep while running.

Riding buddies help a lot. I've enlisted my son for that role. Also, ride in new places, the change in scenery keeps your mind fresh.

I enjoy the peace of running outdoors. It allows me to clear my head. I also run along the river in the city so there's lots of sites and scenery plus tons of people and other runners. I'm always finding myself trying to pass other runners or trying not to get passed. It keeps me on my toes.

The only time it gets boring has been the winter and running at night with only a few other runners out there but I have a mp3 player going to assist.

I agree. Being outdoors in the fresh air is calming. It's also important to have a variety of routes so you aren't looking at the same scenery on every run. I always find it exciting when I try a new trail or explore a new area and discover a good place to run that I didn't know about before.

Having a running buddy helps, but even if you run solo, it's satisfying to just wave and say "Hi" to the fellow runners you see.

Personally, I don't think running outdoors with an mp3 player is a good idea. You may not be able to hear cyclists, approaching vehicles or other runners. As much as I like to "lose myself" while running, I always keep my eyes and ears open to avoid accidents. Obviously, when running on a treadmill, this is not a concern.
