I found this pdf over at Runners World forums. It's on nutrition, electrolytes, and hydration as they apply to endurance athletes. I'm gonna give it a good read as my time allows.

9 pleasant miles this morning to complete my btob weekend. It was an extremely nice run until I almost got attacked by 2 large dogs. One retriever and one belgian shepherd.

I was about 7 miles into the 9 and at the bottom of the steepest downhill rounding a corner when I heard the barks of 2 big dog. My immediate response was "oh no" and to speed into overdrive but it was apparent that I was gonna lose that race. So when they got close I half turned to them, pointed at them, and yelled "NO!!" at the top of my lungs. I did that twice and the retriever turned away. I had to yell a third time before the shepherd even noticed I wasn't afraid and he started to slow down. Finally the owner of the dogs yelled to them and they both took off for home. I was so pissed and not in the least afraid in the end. Weird.

So yeah, that's my adventure.

Mega - I friggin' hate being chased by dogs. At least your encounter was uneventful. (I think there's a recent thread in OT about carrying firearms on runs to protect against unruly canines etc. :laugh.

20 miles for me this morning. Felt very smooth and maintained a good pace. My longest week ever at 110 km (68 miles)!

Out of curiosity, what pace did you hit for your 20 miles?

I've been using the elliptical a lot lately, so I haven't been logging as many miles.

Nice runs Mega and IB. By the way, that was a 6-mile workout I did on Friday. ; Today I just did an easy 8 miles as Ashlie and I got back from her parents' around 8:30pm and so I obviously did not have time for much of anything, let alone the 24 miles I had scheduled for today. Will try that tomorrow after work. 8823

7:00/mile even. Not quite as fast as the previous 20 miler I did back in April before my first marathon (that was around 6:50-6:55), but it felt WAY more comfortable. I hardly bonked at all yesterday.

as a nice follow-up to my track workout last week, I had the best long run of my life today. Did 23.5 miles, felt awesome the entire time, and actually picked up the pace to somewhere between half marathon and marathon pace for the last 5.5 miles. Ended with a 5:59 mile, which was sweet. If I feel like that for the marathon, I'm gonna be very very happy. I was seriously clicking of 6:!5s after running for 2 and a half hours feeling great, and I wasn't even tired when I finished. I felt like I just got back from a 5-mile jog. Awesome. Rounding down to 23 for 8886

Wow, that's the kind of run I'm hoping for on my next long run (and the next race too). Nice work Scorch.

Showoff .

Really though, that's an awesome long run Scorch! You must be getting pretty close to peaking...when is your marathon?

Hi Juked07,

Welcome! The rule I've been applying to late-comers is to count any mileage you've logged since the beginning of the thread (i.e. March 3/09).

Thanks!

Oh cool ^^

From when I started my excel sheet on 6/1 to now -- 310 miles.

easy 10.5 today with 5 barefoot. Expected to feel tired and sore from yesterday but felt surprisingly good... This actually kind of worries me, because I do feel like I'm peaking already, and I still have 2 months until the marathon!! I'm actually debating doing a full marathon instead of a half in 3 weeks just because I feel like my training is coming together so well right now... but I'm already registered for the Marine Corps Marathon in October and I don't want to ruin my chances for that... I just hope I can last another 8 weeks at this level. With yesterday's dropped 0.5 for 11 we now have 9217 we're close!!!!!

Beast of a track workout tonight: 7x800 m with 2 minutes recovery (2:31, 2:29, 2:30, 2:31, 2:33, 2:33, 2:32). With warmup and cooldown, 8 miles total.

I ran in my racing flats, which helped a bit, but after my two longest weeks yet, gym yesterday and not enough sleep on the weekend, my legs are pretty destroyed (not sore, just fatigued). Good thing the rest of the week is a down week.

Pretty soon I'll have to move the goalposts again!
