I just found out that I am cleared for a long training run tomorrow. I'm going to do a solo trail marathon on the Interlocken Trail tomorrow morning. It's just going to be me, fog, a sunrise, and a backpack full of the essentials. IF I can do this I'm all set for my race.

Ooh that sounds nice Mega. Good luck!!! I had a nice 15-mile day today with the 12K race and all that. Ran 46:06 for about 6:10 pace. It was quite hilly and I was trying to stay just below the all-out race mode, so it was a good hard run but not exhausting. Won a pint glass and a pair of socks for winning my age group, and strangely enough, the guy who got second in my AG is a kid I knew from high school! I had no idea he lived out here! So we talked and caught up for a little while after the race and that was cool. Ashlie won her age group too!!!

Congrats to you and Ashlie! I wish I could find $10 races around these parts.

And it's always cool when you bump into an old classmate.

BTW, love the sig!

Mega - good luck on the trail marathon tomorrow!

I can totally relate. Sometimes life not only gets in the way but it ties a boat anchor anchor around your neck. I have weeks like that myself. Job. Wife. Kids. House. Dogs? Yep, even they get in the way of running sometimes. It's a never ending string of impediments.

Well, I wound up losing the trail in a cow pasture. I think the marks were knocked down by cows, I found two of them and stood them back up for other runners. But I couldn't find the third one. Damn. Nearest I can tell I ran 13 miles.

Those crafty bovines! Sorry to hear your run didn't go as planned.

I got my run done as planned today but I'm slightly concerned about my legs. I was well-rested and no longer sore (actually the best I've felt in weeks), but I seem to have tweaked something in either my foot or calf muscle on my right side.

I noticed a dull pain underneath my 4th-5th toes on my right foot, spreading up to the outside of my calf, even into my hamstring slightly. I ran through it and it mostly subsided as my run went on, appearing only intermittently later on.

I stretched a bit more aggressively, including rolling a ball under my foot, and iced my calf, but I'm a bit concerned to have something like this appear only a month away from the race. I only hope it's not serious .

20 miles.

You thinking plantar fasciatis or a stress fracture? Either way, I hope it's not either. My son is facing stress fractures right now and he might lose football and running. Are you wearing new shoes perchance?

Don't feel bad about my run, it was actually very very enjoyable. Plus I got to test myself out without using any pain meds before/during/afterwards. And I did find out how my route is supposed to go so next time I'm all set. Turns out I started in the wrong place, too. lol

Definitely not a stress fracture; I've had enough of those over the years to know what they feel like. It might be plantar fasciitis, although I assumed that developed more on the ball of the foot, not the outside.

I had tendonitis in that soleus last year, but I recovered, and I've been doing a different strength training program since then. When I injured it last year, I didn't have the accompanying pain in my foot, so I think this must be something else. I'll ice and monitor.

I just changed to new shoes earlier this week (same model as previously) so they're new, but not brand new. Longest run in them yet though.

Well, it's a test run for you I suppose. And yes, good to do it without the pain meds if at all possible.

And sorry to hear about your Adam's injury. I know how devastating that is . Hope he recovers soon.

Pretty relaxed 6 today, with my roommate. He's usually a swimmer but has been running for the past few months and he finally got back to campus. We started at 7:15s and peaked at a 6:20 before he started petering out I'm getting back to form though, which is nice.

Grats to Scorch and Mega, and hopefully your injury isn't serious IB...

Same shoes as before, guess it's not the shoes then barring a strange and unlikely manufacturing defect. Maybe you could try some stretches. Hopefully it's under control in time for your big race.

Adam's stress fractures aren't confirmed yet, the wife has to take him in for x-rays this week. But I saw something like this coming. He was conditioned for long distance running. When I took him to see a physical therapist (also the team's "doctor") last week he point blank asked Adam why he was playing football and told him flat out that he should be on the XC team. *sigh* So we'll see what happens.

allies, thanks for the vote of confidence and same back at you.

Eek, hope your son recovers quickly. Stress fractures are no fun at all!!! The thing is, they are usually so fine that they don't even usually show up on x-rays; you tend to need a bone scan or an MRI to see them most of the time. So even if the x-rays are negative, he still could have one. Either way, that definitely sucks for him. One of the risks of running a lot of miles...

I did a nice long 22-miler today around Mendon Ponds. The way I planned it worked out really well; I ran 5 miles there, did two 5-mile loops that went by some water spigots so I didn't have to carry or plant any water, did 5 miles back, and then a few miles around my apartment to give me 22. Felt pretty dang good and it went by really quick. Didn't feel like I was running too fast but I seem to have averaged sub-7 so that's pretty cool. I think this is going to be an impromptu down week though as the last 2 weeks have taken their toll on me and I am racing a half on Sunday that I want to do really well in.

Thing is he was fine until about 3 weeks of football practice and his first day of scrimmages. The PT told him it was football and not the running based on the timing of the pain. I just wish Adam had listened to me and stuck with running.

5.5 miles this morning. Foot and calf were feeling about 80% better after a rest day (just went to the gym yesterday but didn't run). We'll see how it does on the tempo run tonight.

9 Miles just finished now. To think, when I first posted in this thread, I was proud of my 2 mile run!

Good job venkman! Excellent progress!

Mega - keep us posted about Adam.

Well, good news. I did my 25 minute tempo run tonight and my foot and calf were 100% PAIN FREE . Ripped along at a decent pace too! I am once again good to go!

Must have been one of those little quirks we runners get from time to time (such as when my back momentarily seized during the warmup tonight :laugh.

8 miles total.

5 miles this morning. The skies opened up and started pissing rain, the winds howled, and the temperature dropped to 50 F. Without warning, welcome to Fall in Vancouver :|.

Nice, venkman!!! That's quite the progression! You should be proud!!! Today, I did a quick workout: 2 mile warmup, 8 miles @ 6:20, 2 mile cooldown. 12 total. 9886
