10 miles today. did 4 in the morning and 6 int he afternoon. Supposed to be 12 (4 + 8) but my left hip is bothering me today. Stopped halfway through my second run to stretch it out. It felt better after that but I still opted to play it safe and cut it short. Will have to monitor this; I felt it yesterday but it wasn't too bad. Hopefully soem ice, ibuprofen and stretching will nip it in the bud. Got out of work early today so Ashlie and I can go get our engagement photos taken. Whee!

Woah, Scorch, not you too skirting with the injury train! Yeah, definitely ice and stretch (you can also do a hip reset - lie on your back, knees up, then lift your hips a few times to reset the alignment).

Oh, and post :camera: once you get the final photos. I'll also accept a PM if you prefer .

Umm, add me too. My ribcage (lower right side) is really bothering me. I fell hard this weekend on a trail run and either got a deep bruise or some such. It hurts to breathe and running tonight was "fun". I was able to do my intended run but it was less enjoyable than normal. +9 hilly road miles.

Ouch dude. I guess that's one of the risks of trail running. Hopefully the bruise heals up soon.

I was out with coworkers last night so I didn't have a chance to do my intended run - did it this morning instead.

5 miles at race pace, 1.5 up, 1.5 down (8 miles total). Averaged 6:01 but had to work a bit to keep on pace. Morning speedwork is never preferable haha.

It's not a bruise, it's a ripped muscle under my ribs. No running or working out until next weekend, I shouldn't have done what I did this week. Heat and motrin for relief.

Run a few for me IB.

Oh man, that's rough. You gotta be careful; running isn't a full-contact sport, dude!!!! Hope it heals quick!

I did an easy 10 at Mendon Ponds today. Hip felt good; it twinged a few times but behaved for most of the run. Made sure to stretch it real good afterward though anyway. 9940

I took 3 motrin tonight, it helped a lot. The doc says that I'll be fine for next weekend so we're still on if you are still interested in running Interlocken on Saturday.

Decided to do my long run today and take tomorrow off and go for a hike with friends as a rest day. I developed a sore throat suddenly yesterday afternoon and felt a bit rough this morning despite a really good sleep. Legs were generally good although I had less energy from being sick.

Good to hear you'll be good to go next weekend Mega! Did a few miles for ya this morning.

13 miles.

Excellent work everyone. I wonder how much slower our progress towards 25,000 will be with winter rolling up on us?

I personally expect to log more miles due to the cooler weather. Of course "winter" here will mean 40-50 degree weather most of the time. I believe it will be much easier to run in the winter than it was in 90-100 degree heat.

Yep, I lived in TX for 3 years and running in winter was far more doable than running in the summer.

Here in NY, I'm expecting to have to buy some snowshoes to run in, and lots of underarmor. Either that or I get another gym membership to do the treadmill thing again this winter.

Have you (or anyone else in this thread) run in Yaktracks? (sp?). I don't get a ton of snow where I live, but there's usually enough to make it a bit slippery. I might look into those as a solution.

I expect to take a few weeks off after racing so I won't be contributing much until some time in November.

There are a couple more races in NY that I may take part in. There's the Mendon 50k, maybe I can talk Scorch into that one, it's right in his back yard after all. And I will be working towards a 50 miler in the early spring so I can't take much time off.

I've never heard of yaktracks before, just snow shoes and snow spikes. I may get both, the snow shoes for trail running and the spikes for road running when it's snowy/icy on the roads.

My mileage is going to drop this winter. Providing I qualify for Boston, I will train for that, but I don't expect to get more than 70 miles a week in. I'll also be taking a week or two off after my marathon as well. It just means we'll get more time to keep this going!!

Anyway, I got a nice 18.6 mile day today. Ran the Rochester half marathon. Finished 6th I think in a time of just over 1:17:00. (I had 1:17:11 on my watch but I stopped it a few seconds after the finish line.) Here are my splits:

5:45
5:51
11:55 (missed mile 3)
6:07 (uphill)
5:47 (downhill)
5:54
6:00 (darn canal path and its constant weaving)
5:56
5:50
5:49
5:45
5:40
45

That's about a 2-minute PR for me so I'm pretty dang happy! I dropped some random decimal points from my mileage last week so I'm going to round up to 19 which gives us.... 10,019 Still a long way from 25,000!
