Nice splits IB. I'm gonna have to train hard if I'm gonna keep up with you in Boston
Got in a 5 miler yesterday night as a study break (summer classes BLOW). Hit 6:30s again. Not shabby.

Apparently that cutback week last week was exactly what I needed. Today I did a workout: 10 miles at marathon pace. My goal marathon pace is somewhere between 6:20 and 6:30 so that's what I was shooting for. After a 3-mile warmup, I set off on a measured 10-mile loop. I made sure to stay nice and relaxed and not push the pace too much, especially after Monday's killer run. So I ran at what I thought was actually just a tad bit slow; it felt like 6:40s or so. Somehow, I have no idea how, I ended up running 6:10s for the loop, feeling like I was jogging. I'm not trying to brag; after all, I'm still no IB or allies or nick1985, but my recent surge in fitness has completely shocked me. I never thought 6:10s for 10 miles would feel anything less than absolutely tortuous. Hell, I ran a 10-mile race 3 years ago and didn't even average that fast! This is craziness! Anyway, with 3 up and 3 down I have 16 total for the day. 9252

9.5 miles last night. Started off pretty slowly but my legs "woke up" after 6 miles. Good to know I'm not burnt out .

Honestly, what's most enjoyable is just being able to run at whatever pace you're comfortable at, for long periods of time, and not even think twice of it. Whether or not people are hitting 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s... hell even 9s 10s, so long as they can hit their pace for extended periods of time, it's really cool The best feeling is being able to run and not get tired. When are you scheduled for a marathon again Mega?

Excellent run. I have a feeling that both you and IB are gonna have a couple of great races.

I had a similar run today, although it was only a 5 miler. 2.5 felt awful, then started to feel good and clicked off a 6:05 and 6:10, then cooled it down around 7:30 pace for the last half mile. I do think my legs are pretty destroyed from squatting 3 times a week and lifting 4-5 times a week.
Also played tennis tonight, and I could barely cover ground. Although that wasn't as much of a problem as getting the damn ball over the net

Truth. I feel the same way and my hold it for a long time pace is about 7:45 to 8:00. If I can learn to do that over the distances I want to race I will do VERY well. My next race is a 50K around most of Canandaigua Lake on October 10. If I was in better shape or if the race was on trails I'd do the full 50 mile version and completely loop around the lake. But for this year that's gonna be my pinnacle.Originally posted by: allies

Personally I think the squats and lunges help my legs to feel better on my run days. I don't do heavy squats or lunges (I use 2 35 pound dumbbells) though, that may be the defining difference...I do think my legs are pretty destroyed from squatting 3 times a week and lifting 4-5 times a week.
