Thanks for coming out to my b-day celebration there IB. Good luck this weekend and do us all proud!

(I got busy with school and had to give up my goal of running the marathon with IB this week. New goal: weight train all winter to prevent all the running injuries I kept getting, and then run the marathon in May)

10 easy ones today with 4 barefoot. It's been raining lately (although today is a beautiful mostly sunny kind of warm day) which meant two things. A) the grass was nice and soft and B) the grass was soaked with numbingly cold water! Felt good though. Might pop out for another short jog later on but not counting on it. Tomorrow starts my taper! 10,939

Did 3 miles today, and cramped up after about mile 1.25 which killed me. Grrrr. I hate getting back into shape after not actively running for so long, it sucks. On the bright side, I can tell my body has been feeling better overall (more energy during the day and can tell a noticeable difference in my body from pre-running to now after only a week which is great). Need to keep running 2-3 miles 4-5 times a week for a while to get my body used to running again.

+4 today. With the combination of sickness and school I've been kinda slacking (obviously). Should pick up more. I got a road bike though and that will start to take up some of my time as well

Cheers piggy...it was a fun night!

Best of luck staying healthy and having a solid winter of training!

I did an easy 2 miles this afternoon and a few strides. The legs are pretty light, but I'm a bit nervous. Still, the course is relatively flat, and the weather is absolutely perfect, so I'm looking forward to an awesome race.

Thanks for the best wishes guys...I'll let you know how it goes of course!

Just 32k for me this week, stupid blister got in the way. Personal bests at 6 and 20k though, so it was productive rest

Just got back from a freaking hilly 22 miler. I could have done a full marathon, especially if it was a flat course. I am sore and beat - hopefully dinner is extra special good tonight.

Nice Mega! Glad to see you're back in the saddle! You are truly a machine. I only did 14 today but I did it with two of my fast friends so we averaged right around 6:30s for most of it with a few miles in the middle closer to 6:00. Had 16 planned but I'm tapering dammit! So with Mega's 22 we are up to 11,004!

Congrats IB on a great race! I was delayed getting down to the finish line so I missed seeing you finish.

I won't spoil the result so AT will have to wait to hear the time.

Thanks piggy!

The conditions were perfect in Victoria today (sunny and crisp, with no wind).

I started off well, dipping under 6 minutes for the first few miles. I met up with a Vancouver runner and a Japanese runner about 5 km into the race (approaching Beacon Hill Park). We ripped off kilometre after kilometre together, hitting very even splits despite some gradual uphills along Beach Drive.

We caught up with the lead female runner and the guy pacing her, and picked up a couple other runners, so we had a pack of 5-6 rolling along. We split 1:19:40 at the half - still a bit under.

The Vancouver runner took off around 25 km. Although I was feeling pretty good still, I couldn't stay with him. I stayed with the lead female and her pacer, and we shook off the other two runners (the Japanese runner took off though). I hit 2:02 and change at 20 miles.

He paced us expertly through 34 km, and then I started to fade a bit. I still kept them in sight. Even coming back along Beach Drive, when they had gained several hundred metres on me, I was able to pick off the slower runners and move along street by street.

With just over 1 km to go, I started to accelerate. My calves had been tightening and my feet were sore, but I hadn't really hit the wall. I was fatigued, but my quads were still good.

I finished in 2:44:09, a PR by almost 6 minutes. The Vancouver runner who took off on me had slowed up considerably, and he only beat me by a minute. I had an outside goal to break 2:40, and although I gave myself a chance, it didn't happen given my recent illness. Still, I'm thrilled with my time as I beat my Dad's best from 30 years ago.

I felt far better this time around and wasn't nearly as wrecked at the finish. Still, I left it all out there and I am now quite stiff. Bumped into some of my old university buddies who had run the half-marathon, so that was cool.

Official results aren't up yet, but I'm pretty sure I was in the top 20. I'll sort through pics and post some tomorrow.

So the gauntlet is down AT - let's see who can set the next marathon record for our forum!

Excellent race IB, you rocked it! And I won't be competing with you, Scorch, and allies for the fastest ATer. I'm about 50 pounds heavier than you so speed is not my thing. I did 22 very very hilly miles in 3 hours and 45 minutes today, held back largely by my son. But he DID finish this time, I'm very proud of him.

Thanks Caveman and Mega!

Mega - great that your son finished the run (I guess his shin splints are ok now?). Caveman - keep the pain-free runs coming along!

Haha, I forgot to add my mileage yesterday. Whoops . The marathon plus a 2 mile warmup is 28 more to the total.

Here are the Royal Victoria Marathon official results. I was 19th overall, 5th in my age division. Official time was 2:44:10.

Here are some pics that my grandfather and dad took:

Dang IB, that's cruising!!! That is an awesome race and a sweet PR!!!! You set a hard standard to reach, but I'll see what I can do on the 25th! Today, I did 3 miles this morning and 8 miles this evening for another 11. Only hitting 75 miles this week! 11,051

4 miles of intervals. Kept the pace steady through all of them, and felt great afterwords. Need to bump up my mileage though, and drop my times (9:30/mile on average which is better than last week).

easy 10 today. ran with my roommate which was awesome as he is still on the rebound from all his cancer treatments, yet we still clocked a 6:30 first mile! Saw my foxy friend who I've spied moseying around here lately and chased him down the trail for a bit. Good run. 11,072

last tempo workout today. Did 3 mile warmup, 6 miles (well, 1600m) in 5:49, 5:49, 5:49, 5:48, 5:49, 5:43 (how's that for consistency?) then added on 12 seconds to make it a full 6 miles, then did a 3 mile cooldown. Had I continued for another lap, I would have broken my official 10K PR by about a minute (although I did run 35:30iish for the last 10K of the Boilermaker this year). 12 miles total and a nice confidence booster for me. 11,088

I did 8 on a rail trail today. It could have been better, my left foot had some weird aches that slowed me down. I hope it's not persistent.
