Got 6 miles in at the Catharine Valley Trail. Everything was great until about 5 miles and my left leg started to ache a little bit. But I finished strong. Sunday will see us doing an 8 miler, at an easy pace of course.

+1 mile today.

Got to 1.02 miles and tripped on a rock, falling, and got pretty banged up. Both knees are cut and bruised, right thigh has a very deep bruise (like on the bone deep), right hip is bruised, both arms messed up, and right wrist is pretty bad (to the point where I might be goin to the docs in the AM depending on how it is). Grrr was a beautiful day, and was hoping to run 10k at least.

Ouch, sorry to hear about that.

Oh man, DV, that does not sound good at all! Hopefully you didn't do anything too serious! Running can be a dangerous activity!

I did 6 miles on Friday and 5 on Saturday so add another 11 to the total. 12,108

Thanks, doesn't appear to anything more than some cuts, bruises, and sore all over lol. Should be fine in a week or so.

I'm most upset that I wasn't able to do my run Friday, nor yesterday, and didn't work out today outside of racquetball because I didn't want to re-injure stuff.

I did 5 miles today. It was so humid I was sweating like I would during a summer-time run. More importantly, my legs felt great. I think I'm ready to resume normal running activities. We're planning out our next adventure run, probably going to happen Thanksgiving weekend. This will involve running to a hip bohemian coffee house on Market Street, having a latte and cinnamon bun, and then running home. Should be a hoot.

~34k this week. My running has been improving nice and steadily lately, it's really a shame that winter is on its way. The first snow is always such a demotivator

DV - that sucks man. Hopefully you recover quickly.

Scorch - I'm envious man. It's cold here (40F or less) and it's been pissing rain for more than a week. No shirtless runs for me .

11 miles yesterday and 7 miles today.

8 miles on rail trail today. It was chilly to start off but we warmed up pretty quickly. And - we did our first night trail run, our 4 mile run back to the car was in the darkness. Too bad we didn't have head lamps... Talk about surreal.

Back from the San Antonio Marathon! Was a hell of an experience. Was pacing my best friend as his first full - he's done an incredible job training and getting in shape - lost 40lbs so far. He killed his last 21 miler @ a 9 min mile pace, so knew he was ready.

Unfortunately, 70 degree starting weather and 90% humidity = we knew it was going to be a bad day. :| By mile 1 we were already drenched...and it normally takes me about 1.5-2 miles to start sweating. I had him go out at a 9:40 pace...which seemed to last until about mile 13-14. Then he said his body was completely done/shot. Hips, legs, knees, feet were all throbbing. I tried pushing him but he was completely pissed/had given up. He ran/walked for the next two miles until he was completely done. Said he was going to find a taxi.

I talked him out of it but he was really hurting...walked for a mile and we sat down. He finally got back up and started walking again, ran a 1/4 mile and stopped. Needless to say, it was a long next 9-10 miles. A lot of walking. I got him to run/walk a bit but he was just completely down/angry. I told him several times about my bad first experience but he was zoned out. He told me to just leave him alone and keep running but there wasn't anyway we could do that.

Anyway, he finally got to see the light at the end of the tunnel about mile 23, the last 5K left. Finally got more excited and more willing to run/walk. We finally rounded the corner and saw our friends at the finish line and finished around the 5:24 mark. About an hour more than we were expecting. In the 6 years I've known him (including be his roomie for 1.5 years) this was the worst/angriest I've ever seen him...he took about 30 minutes with a walk/talk with his wife before he finally calmed down and was able to talk.

My legs/feet/knees have never been this sore in any of my previous 3, but the pounding from slow running/walking, humidity, dehydration all took a toll on the both of us. Least we set the bar low enough on his first that he'll shatter it. All in all about as depressing/bad as my first time, but it's one of the intangibles that you can't change come race day.

The one thing we both agreed upon is that we both weren't mentally ready/psyched to run. Why that was? Could be that one of our buddies who was supposed to run with us and got a stress fracture 3 weeks ago. It was the only thing we could really think of.

Needless to say, he's now excited to run his second one. Our buddy who was hurt is looking to run the second with him. My next was supposed to be in a month at White Rock, but I'm just mentally shot of running right now.

Wow, RB, that's quite a story! Props to you for being there for your buddy! Even though it didn't go well, I'm sure your presence made it a lot more tolerable for him! Sounds like you're a good friend!

As for me, I did 6 miles on the dreadmill at PF today and then did some pullups, dips and core work. Whoo! I'm out of shape when it comes to that stuff!

12,207, assuming we count RB's 26 miles.

Scorch - shit sorry I forgot to update the mileage counter! Yea I think it helped I stuck around but I know he'd rather have wallowed by himself...was tough. If he had been able to keep running I have no doubt we would have broken 4:20 or even 4:40 including a few walk breaks...but the wall hit him hard and fast at 14 unfortunately.

And oooh, dreadmill, lol. I hate the dreadmill now...and to think it's the only thing I used to run on. Do you do any weight lifting in general?

Bah...I was really busy with work and school last week and I just got around to looking at flights and hotels for Boston. Then I realized the deadline for the marathon entry was the 13th . No Boston for me this year.

I've marked it on my calendar to register in Sept 2010 as soon as they open up registration for 2011. At least I'll be more experienced by then.

7.5 miles this morning.

Buddha... I'm in the same freaking boat. I can't believe it filled up that fast! Bad news is, I might be in Korea for intensive language study in April 2011 so I doubt I'll be able to run then either!

SOOO mad that I probably won't be able to run Boston until 2012...

Aw man, sorry to hear that allies. It completely shocked me too that the race is already filled 5 months in advance. Live and learn I guess.

As much as I'm sure it'll be awesome to run Boston, you'll get your chance dude; you're younger than me. If you have a chance to go to Korea you really should do that (and try to keep up some training while you're there).
