Not running is making me miserable. I've got to log some miles soon, I'm registered for a 50k trail race on Nov. 6.

Did only about 5 miles this morning. My achilles did tighten up during the run, but not to the point where I had to stop. I stretched it out like crazy afterward and it feels ok right now; we'll see how it goes on my next scheduled run this Friday.

Nice...figured you would have done the one a few weeks ago...that seems super popular. (Had 2 Dallas friends fly up for that) GL!

I did the half at that one. It's a better race, but I didn't feel I had the time to prepare for the full following summer vacation. Granted, this is a perfectly fine race too. Torontonians sure get pissed about having major roads shut down twice in 3 weeks though

And thanks

6 yesterday plus another 10 today with a 5K race in 16:3x. Scored some cash so I'm happy. Now on to the rehearsal dinner!

32 miles this week. 1 week until go time. I don't think I could be much better prepared but I still don't feel like I'm fully ready. I guess that probably always happens first time...

You may be wondering why the hell I only logged 10 miles in 30 days.
I finally decided to join my local Golds Gym. Cardio by itself wasnt freaking working. I needed to add some muscle so as to burn more fat. I may even take some spinner classes or some other crazy shit.
In case any one gives a crap, I am doing 3 sets of 8 for everything. M/W/F is upper body, T/T is lower. I hit the treadmill hard on the weekends, but during the week I just do light elliptical work to keep the blood moving. Also increased my protein and fiber, and decreased my junk food. Finally got off the soda. Now if I can just avoid pizza and burgers I will be alright.
Its amazing how much crap the average restaurant serves.

+26.2. 3:57:45 at the Chicago Marathon. It was about 66 to start, about 82 end. Not ideal running weather. Still PR'ed and still finally broke 4, but was hoping for a 3:45-3:50. Can't complain. Results here:

http://results.public.chicagomarath...07FA3090000063429&lang=EN&event=MAR&ageclass=

It's a little misleading though - everyone commented on my even splits the entire race (when most people fell off around the 18-20 mile marker). From 18-20 on my legs were shot at my 8:50ish pace (walked about 10 sec per mile through each water stop) so I actually picked up the pace to about a 8-8:30 the last 6-8ish. Overall can't complain.

Nice work! That's annoyingly hot for this time of year. It's much cooler here in Toronto, even though we're not that far away and are similarly located on a lake. I'm hoping next week won't be too cold.

Did a 10K race on Thankgiving morning. Was such a perfect day for it; struggled in the first half, but felt great in the second half and ran probably twice as fast.

set a pr today
3.25 miles in 30min (Haven't gone past 2.9 yet) broke the mental barrier for the 5k.

I've been running since I've been home on vacation, but coaching and teaching takes up so much time I only get about 1 day a week to run...gonna try and change that up though, really want to run a 5k!

40 miles this week, including 26.2 this morning

So this was my first marathon ever. My goal was a 6m/km pace, or roughly 4h13m. And, well, it went significantly better than that: I finished in 3:58:46!

My goal was to hold my 6m pace for the first 30k and then try to speed up from there, if I felt I had the juice. Of course, what happened is what frequently happens in races, I started running faster than my goal and didn't feel particularly inclined to slow down. It helped that the first 17k or so were run largely on a decline There were also a lot of adrenaline surges, like when I settled in after around 2k and when I crested the first hill. Never really felt that in a race before.

I was cruising comfortably until around 30k when I started to feel that perhaps I wouldn't be able to hold on. However, at that point, the 4h pace bunny caught me and became my nemesis and motivator for the rest of the run. He was doing a run/walk thing, so he would catch me and I would push to stay in front of him until he walked, at which point I would build up a bit of a lead. A few minutes later, he'd catch me again and we'd repeat the process. In the end, I couldn't stick with him, but he was pacing for gun time, so even though I fell behind, I still got my chip time under 4 hours.

Over the last half km or so, I was wheezing and grunting and completely whupped, but I managed to squeeze out a strong finish. Overall, I managed a slight (< 2min) negative split, which I'm really happy with, considering that the second half was mostly level with some uphill, while the first half was pretty much downhill. The weather was great: sunny and a high of 17C. A few times I felt the direct sunlight was too warm, but not too bad. And my mom shaved over 3 minutes off her half marathon pb to finish in 2:05 (first time under a 6m/km pace!).

I noticed several pairs of VFFs again today, 2 pairs of huaraches (my first sightings in the wild) and apparently there was a barefooter, although I didn't see him. I barely saw any of this in the spring, so I conclude that the whole minimalism thing has really taken off in Canada over the summer.
