[edit] Wtf, when I try to put LSR in capital letters it keeps changing it to lower-case. But only if this message isn't here.

Took Friday off because of the LR on Thursday, missed Saturday because of work.

6 today. I also figured I would start the one hundred pushups / two hundred situps program. I think if I just do it after my runs I should be able to increase my overall strength without sacrificing too much with regards to distance.

Does mileage on an elliptical count? I cannot run due to a bum ankle (bad landing skydiving, at least I have a good reason for it!) but I burn 4-4.5 miles 5-6 times every week in the gym.

Just wondering if I can start adding.

I snuck 5 miles in yesterday. And like bhanson I've been missing a lot of runs due to work. Well, that's gonna be a thing of the past. I start a new job in a few weeks and they assured me that OT and callouts are rare. yay! I have a trail marathon coming up in 2 months, I'll barely be ready if I don't get serious soon.

I would think so. If can't run then you are doing the next best thing... Also, iirc, RedDawn used to contribute elliptical mileage.

Then I'd like to add my mileage from the last few cycles, let's see, just finished my 7th strict rotation this morning. So 7 x 3 days x 4.3 miles/day = 91 miles in the last 28 days. Been a gym fiend since my girlfriend went to work a month ago! Have to burn off the energy somehow...

So I got another 5 miles in tonight. And the cool thing is: both of my boys joined me. Now all I need to do is to get my daughter out there again.

Yea...so it's been since early Dec since I last posted. I'll tack on another 500 miles (give or take) since I last posted.

Tobacco Road Marathon. Kind of funny that the word tobacco is associated with a marathon, but this is North Carolina...I think you gotta smoke a cigarette every mile .

I'm aiming to go under 3:30. I'm pretty sure I can do that based on my 20 mile times extrapolated on the McMillian running calculator. If I can pull off a BQ time (3:20 for this old man), I'd be ecstatic.

Wow... I just smashed my route tonight. 3.5 miles at 7:30 which is pretty fast for where I'm at physically right now.

Look at my times for this route:

32:18
29:44
29:58
32:11
28:23
26:04!

I've improved so much in the little time I've been training. My first run after a long period of nothing was in December and I hobbled through 2 miles at 11:00/mile and felt like I was going to die. After that I ran maybe once a week on that same 2 mile route until mid February where I really started training seriously 3-5 times a week.

Now I'm up to about 25~ miles a week with a long run of 10-14 miles at 9:45~ (I'm probably going to start doing this faster, I've been erroring on the conservative side). And this run tonight puts my 5k at 23:15.

8 months until my Marathon, I wonder how much progression is possible.

I haven't ran for like a month due to injury + work + tutoring + coaching

HOLY CRAP. My lungs hurt, I can barely breathe, I've got so much saliva I feel like I'm choking...but

did 1 yesterday
1.3 today

Will hopefully get back to 3-4 within the next month.

Another 3 today, partially on trails. In about a week they'll be completely defrosted, barring another blizzard of course. Third day in a row of running and my legs feel great.

Best of luck drteming, and way to go bhanson! It's great seeing progress like that, isn't it? That's one of the things I like about running; numbers are very cut and dry. It's very easy to see improvement in black and white numbers. Keep it up!

I did 11 miles today. Ran 4 miles to some trails, did a few miles around there, then ran back on a pretty hilly road. Felt good on the way back so I pushed the pace; probably doing around marathon pace for the last 4-5 miles or so.

4 miles

I ran to the local high school track and did some "sprints". Wow, I have no idea how it is possible to sustain those speeds. It took me 1:15 to do a 400m and that's with striding out as far as possible--in order to become faster I guess I just need more power.

<15 second 100m is like a 100% sprint for me right now, lol. D:

3.5 miles

Something strange just happened. So yesterday after the sprinting my legs were still tired today, and today would be 4 days in a row. I debated taking the day off and resting since tomorrow is the day I've been doing my long run and I do know the value of rest, but instead I decided to try a "recovery run."

I went out on my 3.5 mile route and went very slow the entire time. I was still feeling sore from yesterday but very much had more in the tank and consciously took it very easy. As I'm coming up to around the 2.7~ mile mark I look at my watch and realize I'm only 80 seconds behind from that "awesome" run two days ago.

I resisted the urge to finish fast and instead kept the same molasses (what it felt like) pace. I look down at my watch and see 28:30 (8:15/mile). Reference from my post above:

Look at my times for this route:

32:18
29:44
29:58
32:11
28:23
26:04!

This has to be some sort of placebo effect because I know 1 day of speed-work couldn't have done that much.

Those were the easiest 8:15/miles I've ever ran.

*fist pump*
