My younger son and I tackled a new to us trail today. We ran at Steege Hill Nature Preserve, and it was HILLY! In just 5 miles we encountered almost 2000 feet of elevation gain and the subsequent loss. The deer flies were swarming us but we didn't get bit. Great run/power hike overall.

5 tonight in the darkness. I ate one bug per mile. Yuck. But it was a quick jog for me (8:23/mile) with plenty of rolling hills so it wasn't all bad.

I was planning a run yesterday, but it was so hot that I decided to put it off for today and just double what I was going to do. Thankfully our weather is going to be much cooler Friday and Saturday....

Just on the other side of the lake here (Toronto), it cooled off significantly in the evening. It was quite comfortable to run at around 22:00. But it was dark of course. I guess that doesn't work so well for your trail running.

No, I love running trails in the dark. But I can't run that late during the work week, I have to wake up at 4am. Friday or Saturday night though would be perfect. Speaking of which, I need to buy a better headlamp this year. I plan to do a lot of night time runs.

So I took the boys to the Interlocken Trail tonight and ran a 6 mile segment of the Finger Lakes 50s course. Instead of a boring 10 miler on an easy rail trail. 6 miles of technical trail >>> 10 miles of rail trail. Oh and this was my younger son's first time there - he loved it despite bonking at 4 miles. He wants to give it a try when he's fresh. I think he'll get his chance soon.
