4.3 miles again. Can't run long in the mornings before work but I do love the way it makes me feel all day long.

+ 36. I biked about 65 miles on Sunday as part of the Seneca 7 relay race and was so sore the next day I couldn't even walk, let alone run. Also started getting sick last Thursday and that just exacerbated it. Took two days off in the past week. Lame.

5 miles this morning down by the lake. There sure a lot of women out "exercising" at about 8am...

Sounds like a great run then!

+2 miles of taper easy run. Knee feels OK. 5 mile trail race in the woods of Michigan +520 feet elevation in 5 miles should be an awesome first race since high school!

First race since high school? Make sure you let us all know how it went!

About my run being fun: it was ok, it didn't get interesting until the end when I got back to the parking area. Lots of ladies were arriving to get ready for some kind of cardio kickboxing class. I was ogled by quite a few and one tried talking to me. :awe:

7.2 miles around Lake Minneola this morning. Went late on purpose to begin my prep for hot sun running this summer, and it was a really good run.

Well that was a hell of a 5 mile trail run! At mile 2 there was a hill that just brutalized everyone, I managed to run halfway up it but then fast walked the rest, I was not alone either damn near everyone walked that hill. They were running a trail marathon as well and I asked a race official about that hill and he told me the marathon course bypasses around that hill because in the past it was too brutal on the runners. Its a 500 foot climb in about 1/3 mile sandy and rocky as hell. After that I managed to miss a step in a sandy spot and took a hard fall tore up my good knee on a root(nice to run with blood dripping down your leg).

Despite all that finished in 48:00 good for 10th in the 25-29 age group! Not bad for my first ever trail run race and first real race since high school 10 years ago!

Right on TraumaRN, trail blood for the gods of running. You are off to a good start, congrats!

6.5 miles for me today and I'm not gonna lie, this was a difficult run. I was back on the hilly roads of my community, and my left knee and right hamstring were pretty unhappy campers.

Thanks! I probably could have ran under 45 if it wasnt for that hill anf falling. Im happy but now I want more.

Also the race bills itself as the hardest 5 mile trail race in Michigan. They weren't joking. The bulk of the runners finished at 1+ hours.

Also I gotta say I love my Merrell trail gloves, they were fantastic despite the terrain and light rain.

One last note I made top 100 I was 63rd out of 361. Fastest 2 times were both from my age group. Winning time was 30:46(!!)

I was supposed to go for a 70 mile ride in preparation for my first century next week, but I punked out due to a bit of rain. At the last minute, I ran a local 5K. PR by 10 seconds, but got beat out by a bunch of kids from the high school x-country team. Still got a medal for the old farts division though.

Congratulations on your first race in a while, and an impressive result, too!

I discovered just how hard trail running is this weekend. I've been logging decent road miles so far this year (~35/week), but Sat. was my first real run of any distance on a trail, and it's a whole new world. I did 12.5 on the trails of a nearby park, and it was a bear! The trails were very technical, with plenty of rocks, roots, and elevation changes, all of which just prevents one from finding a steady rhythm. By mile 3 I decided that trail ultra I was thinking about in June was the dumbest idea ever, but I was feeling better after mile 8, so I'll probably go ahead with it.

+12 on Sat.

It's a whole different beast. I've done exactly one road race since I did my first trail run back on 2009. I may do the same one again this year to see what my progress has been over the past 12 months, but there isn't a road race on my bucket list.

Yesterday solidified for me how awesome trail running is. Unfortunately for me living in the suburbs ive got to drive at least 10 miles to find good trails to run. Despite that I cant see myself entering a road race. I just love running through nature. I love the sights and sounds and how you've got to be alert 100% of the time and even then you can still fall like I did yesterday and truly it was my own fault, coming too fast down a hill that was loose gravel/scree and suddenly it was soft sand and I faceplanted as a result. It is thrilling and difficult and I love it!

I appreciate that they (trail and road running) can both be fun, but I don't expect to commit fully to just one. Back when I used to ride bikes much more frequently, I loved both riding road and off-road. They each had their own specific charm.

Been a while since I posted in here, and I haven't recorded any of my training runs. I did the Big Sur marathon on Sunday. What a gorgeous course. It was hilly and the road slants from left to right from mile 20 on which is hell on your ankles and knees, but it was a ton of fun.

I didn't treat it as a race and stopped at a lot of places along the way to take pictures - it was an excuse to run the Pacific coast highway for me.
