5 miles this morning down by the lake. There sure a lot of women out "exercising" at about 8am...

First race since high school? Make sure you let us all know how it went!Sounds like a great run then!
+2 miles of taper easy run. Knee feels OK. 5 mile trail race in the woods of Michigan +520 feet elevation in 5 miles should be an awesome first race since high school!

Right on TraumaRN, trail blood for the gods of running. You are off to a good start, congrats!
6.5 miles for me today and I'm not gonna lie, this was a difficult run. I was back on the hilly roads of my community, and my left knee and right hamstring were pretty unhappy campers.

Well that was a hell of a 5 mile trail run! At mile 2 there was a hill that just brutalized everyone, I managed to run halfway up it but then fast walked the rest, I was not alone either damn near everyone walked that hill. They were running a trail marathon as well and I asked a race official about that hill and he told me the marathon course bypasses around that hill because in the past it was too brutal on the runners. Its a 500 foot climb in about 1/3 mile sandy and rocky as hell. After that I managed to miss a step in a sandy spot and took a hard fall tore up my good knee on a root(nice to run with blood dripping down your leg).
Despite all that finished in 48:00 good for 10th in the 25-29 age group! Not bad for my first ever trail run race and first real race since high school 10 years ago!
It's a whole different beast. I've done exactly one road race since I did my first trail run back on 2009. I may do the same one again this year to see what my progress has been over the past 12 months, but there isn't a road race on my bucket list.I discovered just how hard trail running is this weekend. I've been logging decent road miles so far this year (~35/week), but Sat. was my first real run of any distance on a trail, and it's a whole new world. I did 12.5 on the trails of a nearby park, and it was a bear! The trails were very technical, with plenty of rocks, roots, and elevation changes, all of which just prevents one from finding a steady rhythm. By mile 3 I decided that trail ultra I was thinking about in June was the dumbest idea ever, but I was feeling better after mile 8, so I'll probably go ahead with it.
+12 on Sat.
