13 miles this week. Been dealing with cleanup after a flooded basement, so I got plenty of exercise, just not the running kind.

18 measly miles last week. Still dealing with house issues which lead to some laziness on my part which lead to a recurrence of some IT band issues.

Anyhow, ran a 5K on Saturday in 23:08, so not all is bad.

The best diet for pilots? Getting out of aviation. I've lost about 10 lbs since I did, and it's only been a month.

+154 for June. Missed some days due to travel and injury recovery, but marathon build-up starts this month, so I think my base is where it needs to be.

Nice work! My son and I are doing a 5K on the 4th. We'll see how it goes. I'm not a big fan of running or racing in this summer heat, so getting a decent time might be a struggle.

Thanks! My wife and I are running a 5k on the 4th as well. I really want to go under 23 minutes, but it's a big race (2,000 people or so) on a tight course so I'm not counting on it.

+91 for June. Not enough but I battled against a couple of rounds of colds that I picked up travelling.

24 miles for the week.

Ran a 4th of July 5k this morning. Finished in 22:08 ... ugh, just 8 seconds away from my goal. I'm still pretty happy with that time though. I think I was around 24:30 last year in the same event.

+94 miles since June 17th including a 31.5 FA trail run with friends, a brutal 18 mile trail run in northern Michigan, and then another 15 mile trail run this weekend. Been a great summer for running. Rest day today.

Nice progress. Dropping 2:00+ in a 5K when you're already below 25:00 is impressive.

Did you ever do a race report on your 100 miler? Did I just miss it?

Did you ever do a race report on your 100 miler? Did I just miss it?

No I didn't. I DNFed that race at mile 34. There were a multitude of factors, first and foremost was getting a kidney stone 2 weeks(literally the morning of my last long run) prior to the race that had me in bed/barely functional for 3 days straight. As a nurse I know how fast illness can knock out your fitness and that was the first part of it. Then come race day I was just about feeling 100% but essentially hadn't run more than a couple easy runs after the kidney stones. And it was and I kid you not 94 degrees with a heat index over 100 at the start of the race. Despite that, the race DID NOT have ice or really any cold liquids at any of the aid stations so after the first 17 mile loop I was a sweaty mess.

I was feeling kinda icky/loss of fitness was noticeable, then it started thunderstorming/wind/tornado warning/tornado sirens going off, trees and branches fall all around us on the trail. After the rain the temp dropped to the upper 70s but the humidity was now essentially 100% after the rain. And after loop 2 I was cramping and vomiting all over the place, couldn't even hold water down so I erred on the side of caution and dropped after 34 miles.

Then in late March I pulled my quad muscle which screwed me up until mid-may. June was my first injury/pain free month of running since February.

I'm signed up for another shot at 100 miles in November so fingers crossed that the injury bug is done with me. I have a half in Mid August, pacing for a friend's 50 miler the week after that then a 50K in Mid september so it's basically full speed ahead at this point.

It's all about perspective isn't it? Your DNF at mile 34 would have been an amazing achievement for 99% of the runners out there.

It really is. My girlfriend reminded me of that a couple weeks ago after that 31.5 mile FA trail run with my friends. She's like you do runs for fun that most people would never even fathom doing.

But on the flip side when you can run 31.5 miles on a whim your definition of a failed run at a given distance goes up too.

Just hoping the injury bug stays the hell away for the rest of the year.

Still, I admire you for even trying that sort of thing, and a runner can't be blamed for getting hit by the injury bug. I've been feeling that pain myself for the past 8 months as my hamstrings have fluctuated between strained and healthy. A runner buddy made her second attempt at the 100 mile distance a few weeks ago, and had to bail at mile 86. So, so close, but her body was just shutting down, so she basically had no choice. Good luck on your next one, and remember that we only fail when we quit trying.
