and no, it is NOT another 60$. this guy was spending a 140$ on a ti4800 and could have gotten a 9600 pro for 150
Yeah, I know the ti4200 was a good card in its day, but I think people fell so in love with it that they pushed it for too long, and in this situation it would have been better to get the 9600, as in many other situations.
Too often there is a 'golden boy' product around here that everyone pushes way too hard without thinking about it well enough."
I don't think we were pushing the Ti4200, we were just suggesting it as a very good card for the money. The 9600 Pro is also a good card, but significantly more expensive. I was also concerned that a 9600 would push his power supply over the edge since he already admitted to some random reboots, so I was thinking cheap Ti4200 and use the additional dollars for an upgraded power supply. If the guy blows all his money on a 9600 pro, and totally destabilizes his system, he will become an ATI flamer for the next 6 months, since he would not have the cash for the needed new power supply. Sometimes people assume that everyone can just go out and buy an Antec Tru Power 430 watt PSU to run their new "uber" video card, but not everyone has the budget available to do that. Perhaps our advice was aimed at one of those people, not that we were pushing anything.
