Got mine yesterday. Can I go out and buy something for $10 and get the $100 credit?

Is there any limit to what you need to spend? I am going to be buying a digicam here next month but I'd like to have the $100 credit available at that time and not have to wait 8-10 weeks

Also, did anyone else get nagged when trying to activate the card? I keyed in the card number, chose a PIN number, and then got transferred to a customer service agent aka salesperson to complete the activation..

I told her i wasn't interested in the protection plan or anything else but she kept on going. Every time I would say I wasn't interested, she just picked up her sentence where she left off like I never interrupted. I didn't hang up like I normally do because I wanted to make sure that the card was activated properly.
Oh well, it's all done now.

You can sign up as much as you want.
It doesn't look good on your credit tho...

that sucks, I thought the more credit cards, the better your score should be since I pay my bills on time.

If I were you I would check out the finance forum on "hugebillfold." They have some very good posts about this exact topic- its more complex than simply applying / having too many or too few cards. Good luck to you - my simple answer is that $100 is worth going for as the hit to the score for applying for a card is only a few points usually - just pay it off on time. In the long run - the more cards you have - the better...to a point.

Not to post-crap, here, but this is a wayyyy too simplified look at credit scores.

Best long-term advice is keep the cards you already have, don't apply for any new one's, and stay current on the current cards.

The lenght of time that you've had a card plays a big roll in score.

Here's another thing to consider...
You have 20 cards that all have a 5k limit. You've kept a zero balance on all of them every month. Seems great, right?
Well, you go to get a loan for a $100k house. The bank determines that you have enough income to support a $100k debt. Problem is, you already have access to $100k from your credit cards. They won't want to give you the loan for fear that you'll go max out all of your cards next month and have $200k in debt, with the income means to only pay a $100k debt. In other words, they'll turn you down.

This, too, is simplified, but I'm trying to illustrate the complexities of the credit score situation.

Basically, JSLIM, if you don't want to do the research to understand the credit score situation, I'd advise you to pass on offers like this.

My $0.02.

B.S. Your score is increased by having a low credit usage/credit ratio. (ie if you have $100k in cc credit and only access a small fraction of it your score will benefit.)

The other major factors are credit history (longer is better) and on time payment record.

Applying for credit cards has negligable impact. (only a couple points in the short term). It won't make good credit turn bad.

This is standard protocol these days.. she was a little more agressive then some maybe.. but they all do it..

I miss the days where you called and activated.. never spoke to anyone..

I liked when I was able to activate my other card online, no one to talk to then!

I have a bank of america card and every time I talk to them they try to talk me into something, just like the woman for the sony card did. But with them I already know my card is active, and I"ve had that account for 6+ years, so I just hang up with no worries.

Typically it is activated as soon as it confirms that you punched in your number. As soon as it said I was being transferred to a CS rep, I hung up. Mine still got activated... I do this on all my new credit cards.

Did you actually use the card to buy something?
I bought something on the 16th with the card and haven't gotten the credit yet. I guess I will have to wait the 8-10 weeks and then see what's going on.

You just have to spend any amount? Like I can spend $20 on something and get the credit?

I've spent a couple hundred bucks. Besides the $100 free it's a good 0% card to use the banks money on.

yes...damn them for making us pay for music we got so used to stealing - get a life.

Right, $15 for a CD that costs about 5 cents to make; about 10 cents out of that $15 goes to the artist, now where does the rest go? Have you ever thought about that, Mr I-love-RIAA?

Shaking my head, do they allow you to vote?

I can't believe this is still ongoing,
I got my credit a few months after my 1st purchase,

some have gotten it much sooner, don't worry it will happen

This deal lives at Text

The OP should update since the old link doesn't work anymore. Looks like the same deal. I think I'll join in for this one

Not on mine either. I did call them. They said it takes about 30 days after the first purchase, maybe a bit more. So it should be there soon, definitely on the second statement or I'm calling again.

Be patient It will happen,
a full $100 credit to your balance , or added if you have not spent $100 yet, then you would have a negative balance until you buy more

I just got my credit card, but haven't activated it.

Is this $100 credit after first purchase still an active offer?
