EmigrantDirect's account gives better interest (4.9x/5.05% APR) and there's almost no hassle involved. Moved my mother to it from a local acct that wasn't even paying 1%

This is a MMA savings. 4.4%+ or something like that. I just opened it with $5 and got $100 about 50 days later.

Keeping $50 in it for now, moved the rest to checking to transfer to brokerage acct.

It means that they sent the offer to folks on a premium mailing list - ones that they could expect to make that $100. back on many times over in the future. Not to some low-life like you... But if Citi didn't go to the trouble to lock the offer in to only those on the list, too bad on them.

Leave $1 in there just in case Cit's MMA savings rate become higher than your other banks. Then you can use it as your main savings until better rates are around
