I signed up for this during the last time they did a free trial.

The BEST thing about this service is that the MP3s are fully unprotected, so once you download it, it's yours to transfer onto your devices, burn to CD, etc. Not like the Buy.com store where there are restrictions.

Also, you can find quite a few songs from artists you actually know.

I found about 100 songs I wanted, downloaded them and cancelled--all in the same night. Didn't have any problems either. I do have to say though, I don't know why ANYONE would keep this service. There certainly aren't many more than 100 songs you'll probably want, so after the trials up, it's just money out the window.

P.S. Go to their charts page, and you'll see you can get stuff like Louis Armstrong songs, 80s songs, etc.

I agree, working on my 100 downloads as we speak and I'm stretching my horizons a bit.
Beware when you search by titles, make sure you listen to the 30 second samples becasue often you're getting an "adaptation" of the original.
For example if you search for "West Side Story" you don't get the original but a jazzy "remake".

Good point on the fact that the MP3s are not protected, I'll edit my original post.

Last time this was posted, I went ahead and signed up. It's great to find out new bands and music that you haven't heard before. Granted, it doesn't have much as far as major labels go. But it still does have some pretty good music though. For the price it can't be beat (comparing to buy.com and other mp3 places, $.79/song and its really restricted on what you can do with it). It's worth it for me, but I can see why some people would stray away from this service.

I find it amusing that George Carlin is the top downloaded artist.
Otherwise there seems to a decent number of worthy downloads as well as a chance to check out less popular or completely unheard of artists/tracks.

Actually almost all are LAME encoded VBR now. There's just a relatively small number (<10%) of albums that are still at 128, and they're working on upgrading those.

If you're looking for mainstream stuff emusic's not for you. If you're looking for more obscure music or backcatalogs of bigger acts, it's worth every penny.
