~$100 graphics card upgrade

I currently own a GeForce 2 MX 400 and would like to upgrade to a newer card but would like to keep the cost around $100.
Suggestions on my best options?
GeForce 4 Ti4200, FX5200, or ATI?

If you can get a hold on a Ti4200. I would suggest you getting that.

What kind of CPU/chipset do you have?

Of those cards, I'd probally recommend a Ti4200, though I'm not sure if it can be found for that price.

Even though the 5200 has DirectX9 compatability, I don't think i'd run DX9 games very well. On ATi's corner, the Ti4200 is faster than anything slower than the 9500, and that can't be found in that price range. Ti4200 seems to be your best bet

TI4200, check the FS/FT on some 128MB cards, but if you can't find any, newegg has the Abit 64MB model for $80 or so.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest the....

4200!!!

Newegg has them new for $90. Don't worry about whether its 64/128 MB, you'll never know the difference

If you check out Tom's Radeon 9600 review, you'll see the Ti4200 held out VERY well compared to the latest from both ATI AND nVidia! Unless you're willing to spend quite a bit more for a Radeon 9500Pro/9600 Pro or GFFX 5600 Ultra, there's no better card than the TI4200.

If you REALLY want to save some cash, you should be able to find Radeon 8500LE's around $60 which run pretty quick - not as fast as the 4200 but very well for a $60 card!

While I personally think the A 9500/9600 Pro is the best "bang for the buck" ATI really doesn't have anything in the ~100-120 category (I don't count the 9000pro since you can get them for ~80) which puts you at NVidia.

Now with Nvidia immediately take the Ti4200. The 128 Meg Geforce FX is one of Nvidias most successfuly marketed cards IMO mainly because you associate immense power with it...frankly the entire card is a sham and 128 megabytes are tossed on to make it better than it seems. The card is roughly on par with a Geforce4mx460 and would be a huge waste.

Like I said...If you can get a 9500pro or a 9600pro (And overclock it to hell!) I would highly reccomend going that route...else the Ti4200 is the only card in your price range
