Forgot about shipping. It's about $10 ground shipping for me. Around .40 a disc isn't a very good price.

7 shipping for me. Also note that these are Taiyo yuden discs. They are supposed to be be very high in quality. If you back up important data then the quality matters. If you're just looking for cheap discs with a lower price with an unknown brand name then look elsewhere, else this is a nice deal. I bought me a pack. Thanks.

These always burn at 12x for me with a DVR-110. They're a pretty good deal IMO.

Taiyo Yuden is the best dvd media in the world. From digitalfaq.com, you can expect 95~100% reliable results from these discs. And even you can burn some cheap discs sucessfully, NEVER forget the longevity. You don't want your precious memeory become unreadable after 1 or 2 yrs. At least I want to watch the dvd movie i took for my son when i am old. These Taiyo Yuden dvd discs provide the best quality, compatibility and longevity. And at $0.3/disc, I'll go into it without any hesitation.

what type of booktype is the dvd? ty01 disks should only burn at 4x whereas ty02 cna burn at 8x and ty03 can burn at 12x i think...im not sure

edit: ok i just read the link online and it seems that website is the real deal...past posts on this forum to shop4media.com seems to for FAKE TY DVDS probably as the mediafaq.com suggests... That is a great deal though. The tyg03 media costs more but i dont see why anyone needs to burn anything at 16x as 8x is just as fast for cheaper...

I can burn 16x on my nec 3520 on my TY02's.

This is a pretty good price. I usually just buy 50 packs of Fuji's when they go for 20 bucks since you can just choose the made in Japan one's and those are always TY's.

that is why we need to know how to identify real or fake taiyo yuden. Many people think if the disc comes with "TYG02", then they must be ture taiyo yuden. Acutually they are wrong. the fake ty comes with the same real media code as the real ones. Right now, the only way to identify real ty is from the appearance and "made in japan" mark. Here is the link, i believe it will help you identify real ty dvds.

Its hard to tell still, because cheap ty media are mostly fake while the most expensive ones are real. I don't understand why having perfect quality media is that important when its for temporary use lasting anywhere between 9 months to a few years. What I would do is after 6 months or so, is throw it away or make another copy because you never know if it's really worth keeping or not. I maybe wrong about blueray dvd coming out anytime soon due to crappy economy and everything as we know it is going down hill. Some people would be even lucky to be using dvd to backup their games, movies because not everyone is fortunate to have a dvd burner. I can't believe we're getting poorer everyday, our government is using most of our funds for destructive purpose. Not many seem to care much about the economy or politics, I think the world is a very confusing place due to our differences in beliefs and paranoia running very rampantly in today's society as it has always been in the past. no one knows whats going on and they don't want to find out either saying it's not their business but in truth it is because it will affect them later on in life.

MAM-A responds to "fake" MID allegations
Posted by Wesley Novack on 09 June 2005 - 02:17 - Source: CDFreaks.com

http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/11930
Recently there have been many hot debates and discussions regarding the use of "fake" Manufacturer IDentification codes by various optical disc manufacturers. One such discussion revolved around the use of a "TYG02" MID code on MAM-E manufactured media. The "TYG02" MID code is officially used by 8x DVD-R media that is manufactured by Taiyo Yuden Japan. The debate ensued and the discussion participants pondered why MAM-E was using the TYG02 MID code. Joseph Weisenbach, an Engineering Manager at MAM-A USA has responded to the speculation with the following statement, which was provided to cdfreaks.com via email.

Thank you for bringing to our attention the comments from end users regarding MAM-A?s business practices. Some of the comments from the web suggested that MAM-A Inc. has used other MID codes without permission. MAM/CSI makes media for other manufacturers that they will sell under their own name and sometimes that agreement includes the use of their MID code. MAM/CSI has never used another companies? MID without express permission from them to do so. This is a common practice in the industry.

I think it is worth mentioning that the main reason for having the MID code is to guide the writer to use the optimum write strategy for that media. Each manufacturer?s media is slightly different and the writer needs to be able to adjust the way it creates ?pits? on that particular disc. During initialization, the firmware looks for the MID code, recognizes the manufacturer, then begins test writing based on guidelines in a lookup table. Also, there are no ?laws? that limit the use of MID codes - anyone can use any code without gaining the ?rights?, but it is generally regarded as unethical to use them without permission.

Best Regards,

Joseph M. Weisenbach
Engineering Manager
MAM-A Inc.

Does this mean that Taiyo Yuden has given MAM-E official permission to produce discs using the TYG02 MID code? We do not yet know, as we have not received an official statement from Taiyo Yuden.

Anyone can extract the media code from ty, use it on generic media and call it genuine ty from japan!

Very clever and deceptive, if your no name media don't sell well, what choice do you have? You would be an idiot not to do this. media like this deserves what it gets, it's not fake but it's more like a clone like in the old days? pc clone? a look alike that is cool boot!
