it says on the web site the 100 lb weight will cost $45 shipping, you might just want to pick this up at walmart. I dunno if the free shipping thing will work. And buy the other items online with the free shipping coupon or the $10 off $50 coupon. These coupons should expire Jan 31, 2001.

Just as an fyi, you might be able to do better. I went to my local Kmart and bought a 145lb set that includes both the bar and two dumbells for $24.99. The set was marked at $39.99 but rang up for the $24.99 price. I then bought the Impex 340 bench at Walmart.com for $59.99 minus the $10 coupon, and the shipping only came to $5. For less than $80 bucks I have a fairly nice home setup...

If you need a serious set, with 300 lbs. and an Olympic bar, I remember that Sams Club has one for around $100-110.

If you want a truly good deal, stop by Copeland Sports (www.shopsports.com) They have a 300lb international weight set for only $89. That's including the olympic size bar. Got myself two sets and have yet to find a better deal. The webpage doesn't show the price anymore but if you call up the local stores, they should have some sets left over for $89.

BTW, I purchased this at the local store. The shipping cost alone for buying it online would be almost twice the cost of the weight set.

I went to the local K-Mart to check out the Weider weights that Jmman was talking about; the only downside to them is the material - they're all made out of vinyl. I'd rather have cast iron weights, but that's just me.

25bucks? thats pretty good. but i just need 1 or 2 dumbells. probably stop by the swap meet and any garage sales i see. i would like to get the ones that have the removeable discs tho. they seem to run around 25 bucks for a bar with 2x 5,3,2,1lb discs or something

The cast iron weights should last for a lifetime. The vinyl-coated concrete weights tend to start cracking and leaking concrete after a few years. Also, the iron weights are much more compact, which makes a big difference if you're bumping up your poundages. 60 lbs. of iron weights on a dumbbell is pretty manageable (for shoulder presses, curls, rows, etc.), but those huge concrete weights make such a weight pretty much unuseable. Also, 60 lbs. of vinyl is the most that will fit on a normal dumbbell.

If you're never going to curl more than 20-30 lbs. (e.g., most females), and if you don't care about longevity, the vinyl weights are fine. Besides, many of us have fond memories of our first vinyl weight set.

On the plus side, vinyl weights are quieter.

for dumbells you guys should checkout the sales at Oshmans. They regularly sell the hex dumbells at sale prices here in arlington Tx. I picked up their 25lb weights for $3.99 ea. and 35lb for $4.99 ea.

Vinyl!.. no wonder I didn't see any that were cast iron... oh well..

To add.. those concrete filled disks are also not too accurate.

Still have some old 14.3 lbs disks.. so two should make 28.6. My scale reads them as 23. oh well.

Vinyl concrete.. too bad.. saved me more searching.

mpg the discs were being sold right next to there. they're pretty easy to find elsewhere too. i think they go about .50 to a dollar per pound
