<< My Sams has a sign listing exceptions to the 90 day return policy and computers were listed as 15 days >>

That's likely for desktop/laptop pcs - not for computer parts.

I'm not worried.

"Principle / Agent" law.

When an employee (agent) conducts the business of the employer (principle), and it is said to you under the course and scope of the employment, the employee is, in effect, speaking for the employer just as if the employer said these things directly to you.

(off the internet of course, but what can you do?)

also, I reread all the fine print on the flyer and it says nowhere that a membership number is required. all it talks about restrictions is unique addreses.

does anyone know which 100gb hard drive this is? I am wondering if this drive is the "special edition" drive. That would make this deal oh-s-Hotter! From what I understand, the only difference in the SE is the 8mb cache opposed to the standard 4mb!!

http://www.storagereview.com/articles/200110/20011008WD1000BB-SE_1.html

It doesn't really go into too much detail about the se, but you can go to the database and compare it to the other harddrives. Also on the leaderboard, the se takes the lead

<<The WD1000BB-SE's huge, 8-megabyte cache elevates its performance to a new ATA standard. A bit less expensive, the Caviar WD1200BB delivers higher capacity but lower performance than the WD1000BB-SE.>>

This is a hot deal as is, though.
Go and compare your drive to the 100gb wd at storage review, it's the best (only) hard drive resource i know.

My ordeal:

I called my local Sam's and held for 45 minutes, was told they had 10 in stock. I drove 25 minutes to Sam's with my 2 year old son. Grabbed a slip for the drive and bought some other stuff. Then went to the cashier and payed via Discover. Then, I went to the pick up counter and 30 minutes later was told they were sold out and they'd have to issue me a refund. I asked to speak with a manager (not that it did me any good) and was told that another Sam's was showing 11 in stock (another 30 minutes away). Unhappily, I said, "OK, I called you guys and you had 10 in stock ... now you don't have any. Do you really think I should driver another 30 minutes out of my way to possibly repeat this incident?" The manager had the clerk call and 20 minutes later, they were sold out too! I got my money back and grabbed a "We value your opinion" flyer, although I will most likely write a district manager instead. What a waste of time!

I wouldn't be so angry if I had called and was told they were out of stock, but having to go through this and dealing with people that could care less that their customer was inconvenienced ... it's simply disgusting! Also, I overheard the clerk talking to some young guy in the electronics department and he said, "No, we're sold out. I'm tired of this happening, I'm gonna go take it off the shelf." HELLO, if this has been happening, then why do you still have slips out showing they are available. Oh well, time to call some other SAMs. I want this for a Christmas gift!

Sams could save everyone a lot of hassle if they offered this online instead of removing it so you have to drive into the store. Not to mention the fact if they can afford to sell this thing for $100 off, then why not make it cheaper in the first place. Guess it just shows how much profit they make off this stuff.

Picked one up this morning. I'll likely install it this weekend when I have more time. Nice price on a nice drive.

mine arrived today - will be setting it up (hopefully) in my new system i'm building this week

talked to the sam's club rebate person - very nice & friendly - all you have to mail in is the rebate form from sam's website & the ORIGINAL packing slip that arrived in the package...copies will be rejected (not sure how they're going to tell since it's just back texas on a white page, but she was very clear about this)

if you picked it up in the store you should have received some sort of rebate form

great deal

Online order does not mean you will get one for sure. I order 2 online and try to pick them up the next day, then the manager of the business office called and told me don't have it in stock, and he is so nice to check everywhere in the system for me and told me 35 mi south has 11 in stock, the next day I called them and told me they don't have it 'cos they only update their inventory list in the morning. One day I visited a friend at 30mi east, I suddently found a Sams in my sight, I went their after my friends' visit and found out they have 8 instock, I wait wait and wait, wait for the folk lift driver to take them down from riser, but too bad 1/2 hr after they closed but still couldn't found a driver. I have to go there next day after work. Next day, I called to make sure they have the actual HD in stock and the membership desk told me sure they will. I got there at 6:30PM and the nice help me last time tried to find it for me, he also call the store manager to help him & me to find it, nothing on the shelf. He and the manager search around for 1/2 hr and finally found it in the locker under the membership desk. Finally, after 5 days search around the town, I got 2 of them, lucky me, maybe.

What is the quality of this drive? Is it loud? How audible are the clicks when reading/writing? I don't like loud drives. If I did I would just buy a Gateway or Emachines.

Thanks!

I can hear the drive over my case fans. Not real bad, maybe a bit louder than my old 13 gb Maxtor.

read my bloody post before you make your claims about me <<complaining>>... I asked a question; I admitted this to being a hot deal as-is. And I don't know about you but I dont see how adding 6mb of cache is <<totally unnecessary>> There is a distinguishable performance increase (according to storage review charts, I dont know about real world). And when the SE drive costs 80 dollars more, i think there is a need to know.

You need to read. He was referring to that Ghost guy's post of:

<< "THIS would be ON FIRE HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT if it was the 8MB version. But its not " >>

No nothing wrong with 2 MEG,

2 MEG is basically standard the standard on most IDE drives now. More memory might yield higher performance under "certain" hard drive intense applications. Just becuase a drive has a 8 Meg doesnt make it flat out faster then a 2 MEG buffer drive. Seek Time, Platter density, Rotational speed are all part of a drives sustained performance.

There is nothing wrong with investing in a HD with a larger buffer but if your not going to use it for what you do on your computer why pay for it?

I just wanted to join in with a few comments.....I purchased the drive yesterday and I am curious as to what everyone will be sending in for rebate. The rebate brochure only requests the Rebate receipt and the completed form. Is it necessary to submit the UPC code or the UPC/drive size portion of the box. I have also noted that if you fill out the form given at the store, you are required to write the offer number next to the price on the rebate receipt. I don't know if they are hardcore about following rules exactly, I know I have been screwed over by CompUSA several times for not following rules EXACTLY. Also, there is only one rebate per address/per member number/per month. You are required to put your membership number on the mail in form.

Several comments on the AMEX price matching:

1)It is actually called Best Value Guarantee............ phone number is 1-800-557-8317 seperate from normal customer service
2) Amex price matching is strict, I called and found out the following:
a)You must have a printed advertisement to send them (not sure how this works for net deals).
b)If either of the companies involved in the pricematch have their own price protection or low price guarantee, Amex will not honor a pricematch request (I was told that they would not pricematch Best Buy to CompUSA as they both had low price policies)
c)There is a $1000 per cardholder per year
3) I believe from comments made by customer service the the BVG program extended to several other Amex cards and not just Blue (call and verify)

If you can respond to either of these subjects from experience, please do. I have never used BVG program form my Amex Blue, wouldbe interested in how that went.

Well, I've watched enough sam's deals go by as I wasn't a club member. This one was good enough that I joined just to buy it. I know I'll use it again. Even adding the price of membership it's still a good price for the drive.
Thanks for the headsup....
Oh.... Albany, NY washington ave ext. store had about 6 left as of 7pm tonight or so..

<< Plus when I try to check out with the drive at Samsclub, it gives this message:

"Unable to Checkout Your current ClickNPull total is below the minimum requirement of $250"

Sam's requires you to buy more than $250 worth of stuff or they won't sell to you??? How stupid. I've never seen a business do something like that.
>>

I solved this Click & Pull $250 minimum problem by also pulling item 770336: McAfee VirusScan and QuickClean bundle for $39.95 with a $40 rebate (#50 on Sam's Club list). It ends up increasing your net cost by whatever your sales tax on $39.95 is.

In defense of Sam's, they're willing to sell you the drive, just not pull it and hold it for you unless you commit to a $250 purchase. I look at it like a sandwich shop that offers free delivery for orders over $10. Spend enough and you get an extra service. That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
