Well, it looks like I'm getting this drive...it's waiting for me at home now. I've never installed one before and the last time I upgraded (20gig) I had to pay BestBuy to do it since there were some complications. I have a 20gig in now with no more room or PCI slots in my system, guess I'll have to swap drives and reinstall XP?? Anybody know any good sites with help on installing HD's including best way to partition, transfer old data, etc? You can just PM me if it's too off topic...thanks!!!

<< holy cow, what is up with HD lately. Unlike memory, seems like HDs are dropping in price everyday, with or without rebates. >>

Thats because Hard Drives always drop in price at a steady pace. Memory is about the only thing that ever raises in price, which is stupid. Personally I think the memory manufacturers do illegal price fixing, which is the only explanation for prices going up and down all the time... as no other piece of computer hardware does that.

Ever since I was switched over to Charter.net from @home, some of the web pages don't display their graphics. Such as Samsclub... none of their graphics show up, and neither does the banner on Anandtech. Yet I see banners on other web pages fine. I have no clue what is causing that.

Plus when I try to check out with the drive at Samsclub, it gives this message:

"Unable to Checkout Your current ClickNPull total is below the minimum requirement of $250"

Sam's requires you to buy more than $250 worth of stuff or they won't sell to you??? How stupid. I've never seen a business do something like that.

Just got back from Greensboro, NC Sam's, where I picked mine up. They had to go to the back to get more out to the service desk, and she had 5 or so in her arms. Don't know how many are left. Man computer stuff is falling through the floor!!! In 3 or 4 years these will be the piddling little drives like the 100 mb ones we laugh at now.....

got one myself

fun thing about sams club is that they usually repeat their rebates

any guesses if this will repeat in january

sams seams to have an aweful lot of these drives at this price

usually companies sell only a few at this price so that u come in the door ( i usually immediately leave when this is the case)

Vicdoc - That location is where I also picked up mine yesterday. These must be going fast at that location since the lady had to go to the back and get mine as well. She returned with a cart of 20 or so and passed (lYes, literally threw them)to the girl at the service desk.

Thanks guys! I got in on one at the Natick, MA Sam's. They have 9 left if anyone else is interested, they're selling fast.

Now, if I run an ATA-100 drive on the same cable as an ATA-66, it will run at 66, correct?

Bought one in Austin, TX this afternoon (on 183) and they had at least a dozen left. This is a great deal! Someone already brought it up, but I wanted to point out that the rebate is good all month. Then again, Sam's could raise the price at some point, but being a membership store I don't think they do that sort of thing.

Picked up my drive today. Sam's in my area had 21 in stock. I am using it right now running XP. Drive formatted out to 93.13 gig with FAT 32. I used the Western Digital floppy to fdisk and format then I used Ghost to copy my old drive to it.
BTW, people planning to use FDISK from Win98, will need to download an update from Microsoft. According to Microsoft, without the update FDISK will not recognize the whole 100 gig. As an alternative to using FDISK,Western Digital's boot disk resolves this problem. If you are using this drive on Win95 or your Bios does not support this large of a drive you will also need to use the Western Digital boot disk to load EZ-Bios. It fools your computer's bios into allowing full 100gig recognition.

I partitioned my drive to get below 64 gb in each partition so Win 98 would recognize them. We'll see how it works, as I am copying the old drive onto the big guy right now.

Edit:
OMG!!!! It is so fast!!! Boots and closes soooo much quicker. My old 13gb Maxtor had Sandra score of 9684. This demon goes at 25,852!!!:Q

I picked up my HD during lunch on Friday and when I went to Sams today (Saturday) for something else I checked to see how many they had left. They were all gone. Man am I ever glad I went when I did.

For those in the Raleigh Area. They are gone from the stores.
Thanks "weishman" for letting me know about this deal. Now I am up to 260 GBs. What am I going to do w/ all this space?

There is no "free" membership or "one day pass". When I went to ask for this at the front desk they looked at me cockeyed. Occasionally there are promotions when they mail out "one-day pass" coupons, but they're not available at the store. I had to buy the whole membership. Oh well, still end up saving money.

And as far as including the UPC for the rebate, you don't have to. I got the rebate flyer at Sam's and it clearly states that the offers that need the UPC will state in blue writing under the item. There isn't any.

OK, just a random thought.

If they don't require a UPC, wouldn't it be very easy to make a purchase, fill out the rebate stuff, mail it out, and then return the hard drive (box is intact, receipt is still in hand), and in the process make $100?

im not saying im going to do it.
just making a point that they should require the UPC.

No, because they keep track of your user ID, so they know what you're up to.

Alright.. Was just at Sam's... Found the deal and was gonna post it but it looks like I was beatn by 2 hours..

Anyways, I purchased 2 drives by doing 2 seperate transactions.
Both recipts show the same customer name/ID#, so using multiple
adresses may not work. I talked to a manager about it, and she said that
Sam's is generaly **VERY STRICT** about rebate stuff like this and
the best thing she could do is call the home office on Monday and haggle
with em about it.

Ill keep everyone posted on the outcome of that.

uhh....Sorry to tell you this, but they tie the rebate to your membership. I tried this a while back with some CD-Rs, and even used my GF's card to get the second set with....No Go! Since we were both on the same account, and mine is a "spouse" card, and since the rebates say "one per household", I lost out on one $20 rebate.
