Over 100k salary. Age 33. High school diploma. Contractor for railroads.

Just started on a project in the bay area today, and company agreed to pay me hourly instead of my usual salary while I'm here. Making over $1,000/day, it's pretty ridiculous. Hoping I can get on this job until October when it's supposed to end. Probably be able to pay off my mortgage if so.

It's OK. It's the same argument as the small penis guy saying it's not the size but how you use it.

Ahh, small penis insult, how original and refreshing. LOL.

So stories after stories about famous pro athletics, entertainers, actors, etc. that went broke are not true and they all have small penises, right? LOL

I better not laughing so hard or you will reach out and beat me up with your 20 ft. long penis...oh nooooo..have mercy.

The empty drum is the loudest one indeed. Carry on child.

Income means nothing when you live in HCOL areas (NY, CA, etc...). Whatever you earn extra you pay back in ridiculous state income taxes, ridiculous sales taxes, ridiculous property taxes, high home costs, etc..

Whatevs though, in keeping with the topic I'm 28 and just a hair under 100k in a LCOL area. I should hit the threshold shortly when the year end review comes. All I got was a bachelor business degree.

If I adjust for equivalent pay in LA, SF, NY, Boston, etc. I am well into the $100k range, closing in on $200k in NY even. Does that count?

If you're single income that can be the case. I don't think anyone expects a single earner to buy a $500k+ house and pay all those taxes too.

Of course HCOL areas mean higher income. If you're dual income and both make near $100k every year, that extra cost of living (+$5k/yr taxes, +$100k home spread out via monthly mortgage) isn't going to hurt you all that much overall. You can actually be better off for it (higher salaries = more savings if you don't choose to spend it). Though it still sucks paying those taxes that go directly into others' pockets (ie. union workers in NY).

Post edited to clarify I'm in LCOL.

Anyhow, I agree but there are plenty of things you can't control. You need groceries, and any sane couple (especially dual income with kids) are going to have to go out to eat occasionally.

Simply said, my current salary when translated to HCOL areas is something to the tune of 150k. So my point being that regardless of being in the 100k club, it's not quite the same if you live in expensive states

Dude, it was a joke. I don't care how much money you or anyone makes or their penis size.

meh, the only appreciable difference for someone who already makes a decent amount of money is housing. I live in Boston and I've never noticed cheaper groceries anywhere else in the US I've visited (other countries, sure). Even if you can pull up statistics and say it's 30% the point is ... make enough and you won't notice.

There are also plenty of good, cheap places to eat, alongside fancy expensive ones.

But the rent and housing sure is crazy. Even so, my rent and bills are close to $2k per month and I can still put away over $50k/year between all savings venues. A lot of my savings would disappear right away if I bought a $600-700k house around here, but my GF and I are planning on moving away before we buy property

I'm close, but I'm also in the midwest where things are cheap so it goes quite far

39, Infrastructure Manager. I have a B.S. In MIS. Never had student loans thanks to football. Been at the 100+k level for about a year. Before that in the high 70s low 80s as a network\systems admin. Did work on a fed govt contract right out of school that paid 160k\year. But it lasted about 8 months. Then I went back to slow and steady.

I have really low expenses. The only expenses I have are my car, food, and utilities(~700 month). Car is paid off in 14 months. My house is rented out and cash flows. My retirement accounts look even better now.

Actually I setup bowling pins in Royse City, TX. Once I finally get that big promotion to ball shiner I will be rolling in cash. Automation is a myth.

Reminds me of a joke. How many people does it take to shine a bowling ball?

Your poll is missing an 80K to 90K option.

I'm just going to select "I make peanuts" instead, because my pay is laughably low considering my job title (DevOps Engineer) and where I live (Connecticut). The job and salary sites say I should be making six figures for working 60+ hours a week babysitting our flaky production servers, and I tend to agree with them.

If you're working more than 40 hours a week, you're already doing it wrong.

If you're working more than 40 hours a week and getting underpaid, you're not very bright.
