I saw this promotion and it looks like you can get a free PVR after the credit back to your account. They have a couple other good promotions as well. Im thinking I might get the PVR my neighbor has one for time warner cable and its really cool. But i also like the packages dish network offers. Now only if they did my local channels.

You can also upgrade to a Personal Video Recorder (PVR) for a one-time $50 upgrade fee and no additional monthly charges. You will still receive a $49.99 credit on your first month's bill!

I found the site on google.com searching for a local dish supplier. The addrress is www.aifam.com www.aifam.com

Thanks for pimping your own site. Good bye.

Applying the $50 credit you get on your first month's bill is same as paying the $50 for PVR straight away. There's also a promotion going on where you get 3 months free, (up to $50 a month). Since I work for Radio Shack I'll let you know you can get this deal there=).

Well I work for Dish Network so I can flesh out the details on this deal a bit. The particular deal he is talking about is available in two flavors one of them being the Free Dish PVR promotion and the other being the Digital Home Plan PVR promotion. The way the Free Dish PVR promotion works is that you pay $249 for the PVR and get a $49 credit on your first bill making it $200 although there may be something different going on with the retailers, direct offers can differ from them. The Digital Home Plan is different from the Free Dish in that you pay a $99 activation fee if you want to get a PVR on the account and you get a $49 credit on your first bill. One major difference between the two however is that as long as you are a Dish Network customer and a Digital Home Plan customer your equipment is always under warranty. You do pay an extra fee for Digital Home Plan however, at $5 a receiver for the In Home Service Plan and you do NOT own the equipment, you basically rent it. There are some definite advantages namely, if a receiver breaks (hey it happens, not much but it does) and it was not caused by the customer or an act of god, infestation, etc. then it will be replaced at no charge. There are some other advantages to it as well, lmk if you want more details or go to www.dishnetwork.com (God I'm starting to sound like an advertisement here ) .

Insofar as the 3 free months is concerned it basically works only with the Free Dish and Digital Home Plan promotions. You sign up for the America's Top 100 with HBO & Cinemax at $49.99 a month. You receive 3 credits of $49.99, one for each month. Keep in mind it does not cover things like additional outlet fees (more than one receiver), taxes, pay per views or the In Home Service Plan fees for the Digital Home Plan.

Now, onto the PVR receivers in question. If at all possible I would advise to go through a retailer for either promotion. Reason being that it is possible to get 1 of 2 differenet receivers the 501 or the 508. The only difference between the two is hard drive capacity, the 501 has a 36 gigabyte hard drive and I believe the 508 has an 80 gigabyte. If you buy direct we can't guarantee which one you'll get so if you want to be sure you're getting the larger capacity model go retail. Both are nice units and do a good job of recording and various other functions. One thing to keep in mind is that these are not dual tuner models, meaning you cannot watch one thing and record another on the PVR. If you want to do something like that you'll need to purchase a 721 and I'm not currently aware of any promotions on it although retailers may be doing some I suppose.

No, not all subscriptions. Basically just Digital Home Plan or Free Dish although you do get a $49.99 credit on your first bill that offsets that fee anyways. If you sign up for a promotion like Free For All there is no activation fee.

This is true, Tivo does have some features that our PVRs do not although it's possible down the road future PVRs will. The advantage is that with our PVRs you do not pay an additionaly monthly fee for the Tivo service. I know that Direct TV uses Tivo for their PVRs & they charge $5 a month for the service.

I've used the Dish PVR for 10 months now.

Broke after 8 months

DOH

But I'm renting it so it was replaced quickly no problems, and the replacement doubled the size of my hard drive.

Click on a program in the guide, If it is not currently on, a timer to record it is automaticaly set up.

ANY time you are watching TV you can hit pause or rewind. Unfortunately rewind will only take you back until the last time you changed channels so if you surf like crazy not too good.

You get so used to this. The phone rings, pause live t.v. Wife HAS to talk to you RIGHT NOW (about nothing) pause live t.v. Got to use the facilities, pause live t.v. Best part: When you get back you can fast forward over comericials.

They device downloads upgrades autmaticaly so wake up one morning and you sudenly have a frame by frame slow mo feature that rocks.

When do you have to call to cancel the 3 months free top 100 + hbo? IIRC last time I spoke to CSR you can call to cancel up to 30 days past the time 3 months ends w/o penalty. Is this correct?

LurkingInNC - Well that depends, in a sense existing customers can do it as well but only if they are currently a Digital Home Plan subscriber and have been a subscriber for a bit over a year, will need to check the exact date when I go to work Monday. You basically pay a $99.99 activation fee and the primary receiver on your accoun t is upgraded to a PVR, keep in mind you will not receive a $49.99 credit. Other than that yes it is for new customers only.

ingenue007 - That is correct, you have up to 30 days past the 3 months to end the package w/o penalty. You can cancel the package and go to another programming package after that date but you will have to pay a $5 downgrade fee.

Off the record, in a sense yes you could ingenue007. Reason being that you get that $49.99 equipment credit on your first bill for Free Dish & Digital Home Plan plus the $49.99 programming credit and your first bill is for 2 months of service. So you still have 2 more programming credits coming so the total amount of time would be 4 months. Just remember it only covers the programming, not taxes, pay per views, or additional receivers & equipment fees. Still for 4 months you'd be getting satellite service pretty cheap.

I've got a question for you guys... I'm a digital cable customer current and was thinking about moving over to dish. I'm in Alaska, so we don't get a whole lot of deals here. Will these promotions work for us too? I've recently seen posts about 3 free recievers, plus 1 PVR for like $50.... what is required to get these units over than a certain programming package? We currently pay $85 a month for digital cable (2 dig boxes and 2 analog) so Dish is bound to be less expensive.

Also, the small dishes DO NOT work here. We have to use a minimum of a 36" dish to get the satelite signal... this in turn means, we have to pay out of pocket for the dish. Last time I checked, it was like $160 from radio shack.

Anyway, say I pay the $160 for the 36" Dish, can I get in on these deals being in Alaska?

It appears that this place is in Rochester which is where I am located. Furthermore, I currently use Dishnetwork so I think I'm going to hop on this deal. In the worst case, if these guys try to rip me off, I'll just drive over and unlesh

EDIT: n/m, I just read the rest of this post.

Jugernot - To the best of my knowledge yes the deals do apply in Alaska as well although I will check to make sure when I get back to work if you wish. The retailer MIGHT be able to set you up with a deal on the dish as well although I'm not sure about that. Insofar as getting the PVR units all that's required is one of 3 things happening:

1) You purchase the PVR outright
2) You purchase it through the Free Dish promotion & get the equipment credit on your first bill
3) You rent it as part of the Digital Home Plan

With both the Free Dish and Digital Home Plan you have to commit to a minimum of the America's Top 50 for 12 months. Although for either of those plans right now it's silly to not do the 3 free months deal we have running. If you go with 4 receivers ala Digital Home Plan you're looking at a monthly bill of $69.99 after the 3 free months if you leave the programming package as is, this of course is not including any taxes or pay per views.
