Ok...I say again. Watch the depth on the 7k. I had one gig where I put in 7018s (WHY cisco? WHY side to side air flow?) and had to redo everything because they simply didn't have the space for them. We're talking 20+ full rows.

No way they could fit them because of the depth. Had to rip out some racks and make space specifically for 7k, reroute a lot of cable etc. That's where the whole top of rack/end of row REALLY comes in handy. Core cabling is easy if you do that.

Back to your OP - you use high bandwidth 50 micron, laser optimized (OM3, OM4) MM fiber in the data center for 10 gig, twinax for short runs if you can get away with it ie host connections.

I measured where we they are going and it looks like to me we will be ok. However we ordered one of the Chassis last month ahead of time(extra budget that month since we under spent on something else) and it has been sitting in the warehouse. I talked to my boss about it today and we are going to bring up that chassis next week and see how it looks in the rack. This way if we have any issues we can go ahead and correct it before the bulk of the equipment comes in towards October. I do appreciate the heads up.

Very good idea, I think you'll be surprised.

You have to take into consideration front and back clearance. It's as deep as mainframe stuff.

Get this. The racks we got or to deep and the rack rails that come with it will not adjust far enough out to mount them. So we are going have to pull the racks in some to get less depth.

Had a vendor out yesterday and we figured out how to get the Chatsworth racks do what we need them to do. How they where installed the depth from front to back was 35 1/2 inches. We are getting a additional vertical rail that will set inside the rack that will give us about 30" of depth which will work just fine.

What is funny is reading the Cisco Documentation is that for the Nexus 7010k platform Cisco recommends a cabinet with a depth of 24-32". The Nexus chassis itself is around 30" deep on its own. Not even talking about the cable management on the front that sticks out a additional several inches. If I installed this in a rack with a depth of 24" I could potentially have several inches of this beast hanging out the rear of the rack. Anyway it really helped that we did order 1 chassis ahead of time. I could go back and forth with the vendor with tape measures between the chassis and rack and figure out exactly what we needed to do.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Without the mention of it I would have probably of allowed the chassis to sit in the warehouse until right before the install date and then we would really have had a "doh" moment.

Anytime, I've been though it a couple times, didn't want you to get bit. You have to really watch the depth with the entire nexus line, that's how they pack so much power into the FEX and 5500 line - make them stupid deep.
