When I called to get service on my existing iPod's remote (15gb 3rd-gen remote cable snapped at plug - common prob), they said that though it has a one-year warranty, they only offer free phone support for 90 days, after which it's a $50 PER INCIDENT charge! WTF?! Every time I'm about to like Apple again, they *always* do something to remind me how much I hate them. Sucks that they make the best mp3 player out there... :disgust:

For service, just go to iPod Service . You don't need to spend time on hold nor spend their time just to get replacement accessories. It's quick, simple, and painless.

My roomate might has right of first refusal to the 30g, though.

Reason I'm selling: I ordered a 15g and then changed my mind to a 30g after it was too late to cancel.. Then ordered the 30s when they came available on Tues. I don't want to pay shipping back to Apple for the return.

Lemme know.

Roomate got the 30g... If anybody wants the 15g, let me know.

Got mine today and it was neatly packaged and everything was included. It shows just a teeny tiny bit of use, but I knew it was going to be a refurb to begin with. I have no problems at all with the fact that it's not new. I know that some of you guys are a little upset, but as long as it works great and looks almost new, we should be happy we got a great deal on a great player. So far it's pretty damn cool.

what exactly does factory reburished mean? i thought it meant the units were just taken out of the production line for some reason, stripped and had parts reinstalled... i didn't think that factor refurb'd meant that they were returned by consumers who weren't satisfied... regardless, i ordered a Win 10GB, to be shipped on oct. 1.

And btw, i noticed that ipods on eBay were being bought up really quickly recently... fairly possibly that these poor-conditioned units that some people have talked about were bought up somewhere else in apple's attempt to "restock" their units

From their website...

"Refurbished Apple Products are pre-owned Apple products that are placed into Apple's stringent Refurbishment Process prior to being offered for Sale.

Each unit is fully tested (including full burn-in testing); refurbished with replacement parts for any defective modules identified in testing; put through a thorough cleaning process and inspection; repackaged (including appropriate manuals, cables, new boxes, etc.), and given a new refurbished part number and serial number. Each unit is also placed into a Final QA inspection prior to being added to sellable refurbished stock. Refurbishment Procedures follow the same basic technical guidelines as Apple's Finished Goods testing procedures. "

Well after getting a "delayed until 10/3" email yesterday I got a shipping notice today. Mine said it was coming overnight in the web status but the shipping notice says it's coming FedEx ground.

Sorry some of you are having trouble with Apple on the scratched-up Ipods. If you do not have prior history with Apple, they are probably less likely to do much.. when I called they had my customer details including prior service calls for Mac units at my work. Since I have bought a number of Macs over the years for work, and hinted that I couldn't authorize the G5 requests we had pending if Apple service is not willing to make us happy, they gave a credit. If you are a Mac owner and got a cosmetically-challenged Ipod, just tell them you are considering a switch to a Dell or IBM workstation as you have concerns about doing further business with Apple. I bet you'll get satisfaction.

But please do not threaten them, especially if you are not really going to buy another Mac anyway. Even an Ipod with a few scratches is better than anything the competition can offer, or else you wouldn't have bought one in the first place!

AS for Win units vs. Mac units coming in less-than-perfect condition: I am a Windows user, but when I ordered, I ordered the Mac version, as that was the only thing in stock. I dont' think apple is purposefully shipping out flawed units, but they have more demand than product and have probably been leaning on their refurbishers to get moving. Also, I got the impression that their 'refurb warehouse' is really an outside outfit and not part of Apple proper.. that would also explain why they cannot tell you if inventory is pending or give a realistic date on backorders. IE: when I called and was given the credit and was told they had no more refurbs to ship, 2 hours later every model but the G3 10gig was back in stock.

I ordered the 10 Gig Ipod after reading numerous threads saying that Apple replaced the cases and they were perfect and scratch free! I want to give this to my son for a Christmas present but no way in hell do I want one with scratches. If I had know this was a possibility I would have never boaght this. Should I cancel my order? Mine is scheduled to ship on or before 1 Oct. Could I get a refund if it was scratched up?

REREAD my message, it has been posted in MANY forums that Apple has replaced the cases on these Refurbs. It appears they are not doing this any more. Based on these Messages I believed I would get a scratch free case! I don't know how to make it any clearer to you. It appears Apple has a 10% restocking fee on opened packages but if I don't open it I can get a full refund.

I got the 30 gb with dock for 348 + tax. What really amazed me was I ordered on a Saturday and received it Tuesday with out paying for the 2 day.

I am happy. I have put about 150 CD's on it so far and less than half full. Looks and works great.

I want to get an auto charger since I commute 150 miles 3 times a week.

Any advice on the fm broadcasters. The don't sound to reliable?
