Does anyone elses tracking number from FedEx not work on their website? My tracking number is 23 digits long, that seems real long for a FedEx number to me.

Combine that with the scratches and I am beginning to get the impression that Apple feels that "They'll get what we give them and they'll like it."

i actually had a deal lined up on eBay, but upon reading that the apple refurb'd units that were shipped were close to 'new,' i decided to go for an apple refurb over eBay b/c i don't exactly trust eBay all that much. apple's always been somewhat low in my book, but for 169$, i don't want some trashy unit... p.s. apple fanboys suck

If you are giving as a gift, you are kinda stuck. You would have to spend $275-299 to get a new one, or buy one on eBay and cross your fingers,or hope the one you get from Apple is a "new" refurb: IOW one still in the retail packaging rather than the brown box oem refurb labled package I and others got.
Just out of curiosity, have you and anyone else here EVER bought a manufacturer refurb item of any sort and had it come in looking definately used? By manufacturer refurbished I mean one that was clearly labeled as factory refurbished and in a sealed box, not one sold by Compgeeks or Fry's that was used and returned by the customer and then resold immediately.
As for my experience, other than the occasional purchase of a new item that has been resealed, I have never (that is out of at least 3 dozen electronic and small-electric items) gotten an item where the item itself was scratched up or dirty. I buy Dell and other PC refurbs on a regular basis, my 1701FP is a refurb, my Logitech trackball is a refurb, my Hitachi notebook, as are my two Toshiba TIMM TVs. None of those had anything wrong with them other than sometime having a new serial number label, the original serial number crossed out, or were packaged in a brown-box.
Even though I wouldnt trade my Ipod for no Ipod, the more I think about it the more annoyed at Apple I get. I would have waited an extra week to get one that was "like new". Or may even have excused the scratches if they had cleaned it. But like others I also had to clean gunk off and from around the buttons and fingerprints from the metal. Combine that with the scratches and I am beginning to get the impression that Apple feels that "They'll get what we give them and they'll like it."
For those people who recieved their iPods already, where did it ship from?

Priority Overnite, which is nice - I only paid for two day.

w00t, first post!
I went for the deal, as I had been lusting after an iPod for a long time. Ordered on 9/24, chose 2 day shipping. Got Airborne tracking number on 9/27, and estimated delivery date of today (9/29). Hung around the house all morning, and it didn't arrive by 12.
Called Airborne tracking, and was told that they were shipping out of Singapore and Taipei, and that once they cleared customs, I would recieve it in 2-3 days. Told them that it said delivery on 9/29, and I missed 1/2 day of work - well, too bad.

Was I getting jerked around by a clueless customer mis-service rep?
