They were both refurbs. I didn't read the fine print 90 day warranty. I am SOL BUT on the positive side, my AX1200 has a 7 year warranty !

Any chance that particular AX1200 was powering the dead 780 and 780Ti?

It was the butler, in the kitchen, with a candlestick.

BUT on the positive side, my AX1200 has a 7 year warranty ! And I could not find my receipt, but newegg knew about my 2010 purchase, and my RMA is approved and shipped off to them.

I have 2 other AX1200's, and used one to keep folding.(it was on one of my 24 core boxes that is turned off)

The PSU on my 24 core died about 2 years ago, I replaced it with a 1k Platinum EVGA with a 10 year warranty.

So...how does one OC a 980Ti? Just crank up the core clock? Does the system then crash, once you've gone too far?

Pretty much. I use EVGA Precision X, upped the power target to 110% (not really sure if I even need that) and then bumped up the core (GPU Clock Offset). I wouldn't jump up too much at once but maybe run for a day and then increase a little more if no issues.

I don't recall reading a single review of 980Ti that did not hit at least 1.4, and many did 1.5 or more.

Edit: And of course remember to pause the folding client before making any changes.

Thanks for the stats Petrus

I'm just briefly running F@H on my C2Q @ 3.6 GHz, is 1.2k ppd about right for that!?? (just realised 1 core was being fought over for GPU crunching).

Salvorhardin
I forgot to thank you got the 5850 ppd, so thx .
Looks my HD 5850 will get ~9.5k ppd with the current WU, ....... although I've just realised it doesn't have a spare CPU core! ..... sorted now.
[edit]I forgot that F@H client sorts itself out now for CPU/GPU crunching)

I don't think I've ever gotten a refurb without some glitch. Probably best not to get refurb PSUs then.

Another one, seems like I started a trend.

Yup, and it seems to be a very good trend too. Comparing to not only the output this thing brings, it also dwarfs the 960' & 970's in size. It's pretty much a beast. I couldn't believe it when I took it out of the box!

Still disappointed with my Dell with 2x quad Xeons and a GTX 620 in it with folding but it is what it is

Thank you, Shrunk Rapper, for the stats, as usual, you party animal. Enjoy!

Now to the rest of you, less than 8 hours until the PrimeGrid race/Folding@home intermission. "Finish" your tasks and prepare to switch for the next 3 days...or don't, up to you of course.

What ppd are you getting?

Web client shows 9900ppd. It's 2x Xeon X5355 (8x2.6mhz old, I know) with 8 gb and a GTX620. The card is low end, the computer is older and it is what it is. Got it free and threw it at this having never run FAH swth any seriousness. Someday I'll throw some more parts at it. FSB is 533 so I can see why it's not as fast as it could be

And the GTX980Ti does an upcoming primegrid task in 5min 40seconds vs 14 min for the 280X.

I think I shall take this as hint.. eh?

These cards can crank out the WU's, no doubt....

Thanks for the stats Peter, enjoy the party and the beer!

Thanks for the stats.
I'll be at 0 for the next three days

Should get a couple of mil in PrimeGrid though

Thanks for the stats Petrus, sounds like you had a good trip away

Ah ok, that's the 'brother' of the Kentsfield, e.g. Q6600, I don't know if you saw a few posts back but I ran F@H briefly on my 2nd rig's CPU (Q9550 o/c 3.6 GHz, 12MB L2)), that was only getting ~1.2k ppd according to F@H ctrl!, so yea it seems our old Core 2 CPUs don't get many points .

It's FSB btw is at 424 MHz (aka 1696) vs your 333 MHz (aka 1333), so FSB doesn't seem to make a huge difference. Although what ppd is your CPU getting?
IIRC Penryn (Yorkfield) has a 10-15% performance advantage over Kentsfield.

For comparison, output of my
C2Q @3.6 GHz ~1.2k ppd
i7 4820k @3.9 GHz ~ 17.5k ppd! (that's only a 8.3% clock speed advantage, although it does have HT too)
But seeing as you got it for free that's good!

Got a Q6600, no GPU, 2GB Ram, Windows 10, all 4 cores folding showing 5612 ppd and the Dual Xeon (Dell Precision 490 2xX5355(4 core@2.6ghz), 8GB memory, GTX620) folding 7 cores with one open for the CPU showing 9333ppd. Just thought it should be doing better. Not even twice the Q6000. I might disable the GPU and let all 8 processors go at it ans see what happens

For a GPU, always use 2 core, so 6 for CPU and 2 for GPU

Been running Seti too long. Bumped it down to 6, but apparently it will continue to use 7 on the current work unit. We'll see.

Mark, you sure about that? I thought for any DC that 1 CPU core was enough for 1 GPU crunching?
I've just been looking at my HD 7950's GPU load for a few minutes & it was nearly always at 100%.
Also, I stopped CPU crunching on my 2nd rig & didn't notice any change in GPU ppd, in the short term at least.......

Yea that's odd, my Q9550 @3.6 GHz, was only showing 1.2k ppd, although I forgot to mention that was only on 3 cores.
Your Q6600's output seems surprisingly high to me!

So what was the ppd of just your 2 Xeons?

I can't remember where I read that, but it said always use a multiple of 2.
