Did all that and it does seem to be working. We'll have to play some more. A little disappointed by the PPD

My workstations have dual Xeon X5650's in them, 24 threads/12 cores. According to this link you should expect about half the performance, and I'm only getting between 38k-48k ppd per machine on the CPUs.

In comparison, I'm getting 120,000ppd per AMD R9-280X GPU, and 180,000ppd on a Nvidia Titan. Hope this info helps give you a yardstick to measure your performance with.

To repeat theAnimal, whether in advanced mode (right click on tray icon) or web mode, ensure your slider is set to Full power. And ensure your GPU is being seen, I'm not sure from your last response if it is. Configure/slots/add GPU if not. The client automatically reduces the CPU usage by one to assist the GPU.

In this (advanced control view) pic, my i7 (12 threads) is using 10 threads CPU, and 1 thread each for the 2 GPUs.

It is normal to only have one task per CPU/GPU. Much different than BOINC. It downloads a new task when you get to 99.9% on the current task (in my limited experience).

Web control would look like this for the same screen shots as above:

Or...we may just cause a electrical blackout.

VirtualLarry is up next, but then things slowwwww down. Gonna be hard to catch anyone after that!

Sigh. I think it took me five years to crunch that. Of course, way back then, we didn't have these shiny newfangled "R9 280X" video cards...

Blowing by me in less than 9 days, wow.

I remember crunching F@H on FOUR 9600GSO cards at the same time, and being happy at getting 16K PPD.

Edit: Sigh, again. GPU WU download seems to be having issues. 6 retries so far.

So guys,
The dual Xeon shows up as one cpu? I learned something.

I ran Seti with dual cpu's back when, but never folded with them. I really thought they would show up as separate slots.

Sorry for the miscue there QuietDad.

Is the video card present in FAH Control? That is the more important piece in your arsenal.

Are you using a passkey to get bonus points?

Yes, I'm using the passkey. Looking around I see two slots, 1 GPU and 1 CPU one my Dual Xeon (2x4 cores) and have it set to fold on 7 cpus (1 free for the GPU) and on the Q6600 I see 1 slot for the CPU and it sees 4 cores. Power is set to full on both so I guess I'm doing it right.
My major experience is with Seti@home, which when running, Taskmgr shows tasks for each CPU I'm running and with Folding it doesnt. I know these machines aren't up there in equipment (Gpu is a GTX620) but it is what it is. Just thought they should be doing better. Whatever the realities, I can throw what it gives at the race. Seti is hurting in the work unit department right now so it's better than having them sit idle.

Everything I've read said the dual cpu should show as SMD. Sorta concerned about that due to lower than expected points.

Multi-CPU systems used to score much higher ppd when the "bigadv" experimental project was running. Some of the quad Opterons were getting near 1 million ppd IIRC.

It's funny how different perception can be about ppd. I have probably another 300k ppd I'm not running because I just don't think it's worth the extra heat/power.

Not exactly. One client, but it has 24 (or in my case 22) cores crunching. I will post a screenshot when I get time.

And for points. The GTX980 is the best bang/buck. At 350k ppd, and only $410 (I got a refurb) its great. 22 cores@2.8 ghz is only worth 57k ?

The computer is on anyway in sort of a NAS use setting so it's not doing more harm. The heat is welcome in that it allows me to crack a window in the room it's sitting in without using the furnace more.

P.S. Checking again, I'm making the assumption that having the right team number on the Q6600 (Remember when these ruled?) would improve my stats with the team

The stats are as of December 8, 2015, 19:00 UTC.

The individual stats:

The daily production:

The TeAm's production graph:

The racers' total production in a different way:

Those are the stats for the first week ... lets get some more proteins folded!

It's probably worth taking a look at the "log" tab in the client for errors. You can turn on filters for each slot and also check specifically for errors. Maybe there is a hardware issue with your video card?? I would expect a bit more output for your hardware.

Log table's clean. I did find my q6600 was crunching with the wrong team number it it (185 instead of 195) and thats fixed. I think I have it set now and just need to watch for a day. Need to bite the bullet and upgrade the GTX620 in the dual xeon and get a card for the Q6600 but as of this moment, neither box has cost me a dime to build, coming from leftover parts from updgrades for other people, and no need to start now.

I'd say my 980Ti is a better bang/buck, getting around 600k (probably more OC headroom left too), got it open box for $810 Canadian. It's Gigabyte G1, nice & cool & quiet.

Again, the Dual Xeon was right and after two attempts, the q6600 should be correct now. And I spent 35 yrs as a coder being anal about things....

I just got a GPU WU that's using 1.4GB RAM! That's a third of my RAM! I'm going to have to stop GPU work if this keeps up.

LOL

Of course the next gen Nvidia cards are just around the corner and they should be a nice jump in performance since they are going to 16nm versus 28nm.

What if you only buy what you can afford from old parts you sell? :sneaky:

Thats the problem... When I retire, I have 3 24 core systems to sell, and a dual-core E8400 mobo/cpu, and 2 1366 quad core motherboards/cpu ... 2 470 nvidia cards, etc.... to sell.

But thats months out. I want this for the race !

Hang in there buddy! You're not getting displaced from the top spot anytime soon, no matter how hard you get Pokey'd and pushed! Next gen is almost here! Whether you buy new gen or used current gen, it's a win to wait.

In other news, it's just too freaking hot this week, I've shut down some lower performing boxes (to the tune of 150-170k ppd). I tried, just can't catch Pokey.

At least it's not as bad as the SETI race a few months back. I was almost able to hold my own against him this time.
