LOL,

You guys are too much..........

Seems like Mark is light years out there and Tony, you have enough cores to choke a horse....................you don't need any encouragement.

But Mark is on my team, for now, so Mark, go get that card........... ()

I'm only 95 million points in front, and that 3 months till you catch me at the current ppd.

I just got a GPU WU that's using 1.4GB RAM! That's a third of my RAM! I'm going to have to stop GPU work if this keeps up.

I've got 8GB in this box, and my current Core 0x21 GPU WU is taking up nearly 1GB, according to Task Manager.

But also, for some reason, my PC is now acting slightly sluggish, and stuff is weirdly slightly delayed. Even though, according to GPU-Z, my GPU load is now 64%, and not 98%. Yet my GPU temps are even higher than when it was at 98% for other WUs. Hmm.

Typical usage of ram on my computers is roughly a third of the ram. If I have 4GB it uses 1.3 - 1.4GB. If I have 8GB it uses 2.6ish.

If I use the computer, I set the cpu slot to 2 less than the number of cores. Also if I remember correctly, they have recommended you set the power slider to medium if you use the rig.

Sluggishness could also come from a problem WU. You might check the Folding forum for that. There is a thread dedicated just to problem WUs.
And I have noticed we've been getting a lot of "new" WUs lately.

And of course there is the "if all else fails" quit folding and reboot your computer.

Some of the core 21 wu can make the computer a bit sluggish (and I'm not using cpu for folding even).

Wow you've flown past already!?
Looks like you've got plenty of easy targets until you hit ~18 mill

The WU that caused me trouble was http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/fahproject.overusingIPswillbebanned?p=10494. I did manage to get it done, though.

Once I can shut down my work VM at the end of the day, which uses 1GB RAM, I'll try at least one more GPU WU.

Today Drsignguy joined the race! Welcome!

Welcome!!

I've also spun up a second G3258 machine, this one with an older BIOS, so it's not clocked as high, but it also shouldn't reboot every two weeks or so. It's at 3.6Ghz, with a 7950 @ 800 / 1250, like my other one. Shows 77K PPD currently.

Ah man... Shutting down a GPU. I have to steal the system's PSU for a few days to get a friend's primary PC up and running until a replacement PSU arrives Saturday.

Thats OK, the little brown truck is coming Friday. My PPD will make up for Team Anandtech until you get back up.

What no extra PSU's laying around ? I would loan you one if you were in town.

My spare is being used in an open benchtop rig, assembled just for this race in order to add 2 (spare) GPU slots.

I think I found a good deal though for a new EVGA 750w PSU. Just enough to handle a typical dual GPU situation, at least temporarily. $50

Dang thats good... I have a Corsair AX1200 sitting around, so I plan to replace my AX-850 in my SR-2 rig, to have 2 980's working this weekend.

Still considering the 980ti....

Engineers spend months/years trying to put smoke in their electronics. If you have to overclock to the edge of stability to get the aforementioned ppd (700k?)....meh, that's a lot of money to have in a GPU that may let the smoke out.

What kind of ppd is possible at stock settings?

about 350k PPD each at stock. Since I have one, and thats what it does, I am sure of that. (I posted pics, its all I have right now)

Now the 980ti at stock thats is supposed to do 600k ? If I go for it, I will post pics. That would put me at 1.3 mil ppd.

How much is a 980ti $$$-wise? $600?

My 7950 HIS 3GB GDDR5 cards cost me $130 ea new last year at Newegg, on a fire-sale clearance. They do 92K PPD ea, if FAHControl is to be believed.

The 980ti, if it's $600, and delivers 600K PPD, that would be $1/PPD. My card is like $1.40/PPD. So that would actually be the better deal, as expensive as it is.

The big question is IF it does 600k ppd. Somebody said it would, but until I see it, I won't believe it. $650

Is what I am considering.

Got a WU stuck in "Send", 100% sent, but not done. Its collection server is 0.0.0.0. It's a CPU WU, so not a big deal, but suggestions? I want to know what to do if a GPU WU does this.

Welcome to the race Drsignguy .

And Hi Neurodog

Ken
I see me CPU client has stalled too, since this morning!
Is your log anything like this? :-

09:32:36:WARNING:WU03:FS00:WorkServer connection failed on port 8080 trying 80
09:32:57:ERROR:WU03:FS00:Exception: Failed to connect to 171.64.65.124:80: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

15:23:32:WARNING:WU01:FS01:Failed to get assignment from '171.67.108.45:80': Empty work server assignment

Is it just down to a lack of WUs?

[update] Nm, restarted the client & all ok now

My HD 7950 (default clocks of 925/1250! ) is doing 75k ppd according to F@Hcontrol (currently has the whole CPU to itself due to above problem!), how do you get 92k?
Btw I noticed your previous post you say 1 of your 7950 rigs does 77k, which is right?
