This could be the world's first vodka powered clock.

That's a great idea. And when you're fired from you job because your clock that runs on booze doesn't work, you can always drown away your sorrows with the "Moonshine Clock".

After looking at the pic, methinks you put whatever you want in the reservoir (even air), but when the little button cell battery goes dead that's housed somewhere behind the big "12:00" it won't tell time any more

EDIT: Smaller version HERE

it's definitely not electrolysis because that requires energy + water input to yield hydrogen and oxygen gasses; you're not going to get electrical power from electrolysis. Cold fusion is controversial as hell but even those claiming to have achieved it don't claim to have gotten more energy out than hot fusion can generate (the problem with hot fusion is that it takes more energy to start the reaction than they get out of the reaction with our current reactors... design improvements are in progress).

If it actually is cold fusion though, whoever invented this will make bill gates look like a pauper.

sorrie to bring this out from the garve....but did anyone actually get in on this deal? how's the clock? reputation/reliability of the merchant? or does anyone know of any other reputatble places (online or B&M in NYC) to get this? ... would be a cool novelty gift for a friend

thanx

I think there is a lithium battery somewhere, and the company will be long gone when the battery runs down.

where is the C coming from? Last
I checked, H2O contains no C.

What I want to know is from the website it states "Pollution Free"

So how much pollution does your normal clock produce?

And this can't be pollution free, because when the battery wears out, and it will. Then what will we do with this little gadget? Certainly not throw it in a Landfill.

Nothing runs on water alone unless this has a waterfall affect and runs a minature turbine generator inside.

Lots. Just think of all those seconds, minutes, and hours that have passed and are no longer needed - they have to go somewhere. This clock dissolves them into the water and converts them into electricity in order to generate new time. Simple!

A better way to look at is how much pollution does your local power co produce and what percentage of it's total electricity is going to power a normal clock. If I hear one more person say there's a battery in this thing, I'm gonna lose it? Did anyone here watch Mr. Wizard? Didn't you guys have the potato clocks when you were growing up? Exactly the same thing, you could use water in those as well. As one astute observer noted above, the potato's tend to go bad over time and who the hell wants rotting potato in their room?

It's a chemical reaction between the zinc/copper in the probes and the electrolyte (not electrolysis ). It's obviously a early version of the machines that are, as we speak, turning humans into electricity to power the Matrix in which we all live. Either that or there's a midget in there on a bicycle, I'm not sure which.

It's called "perpetual motion" - the newest pollution-free hydrocarbon alternative!

lol

Interesting deal, I can not believe I would be able to harness the power of Cold Fusion to power a clock, scientists around the world have been unable to make it work, but a clock maker did. I am going to mod this to power my computer now, I hope it can handle OCing .

Cold fusion has nothing to do with that, what you describe is simple electrolysis. I agree on the battery.

thing about the redox process is that it will eventually fully oxidize/reduce the metals on both sides, and the clock woudl stop functioning....i dont think it would take too long either...so i dunno

True it would eventually stop working, but it's going to take alot longer than you think.

If I hear one more person mention a battery, I'm going to lose it. THERE IS NO BATTERY.

Sure, I'll mention a battery.... except it's a one cell battery. And, it's not one that comes from radio shack. What do you think a battery is, magic? Do a little research to understand what a battery is, and you'll realize this is just a simple battery. Here's an example of another easy battery you can build. battery It doesn't have to be encased with a metallic shell and have "duracell" or "eveready" stamped on it to be a battery.

And, lastly, it wouldn't need a little turbine generator to generate electricity... For a device capable of generating 10's of thousands of volts, check out Lord Kelvin's electrostatic generator.... it's powered from dripping water.
