1156 stock cooler wiggle?

Coming from a 939 opteron, I have no clue what the fit is supposed to be on these 1156 stock coolers. I'm waiting on parts but couldn't wait to put what I had together.

First of all, pushing that pin down to lock the CPU nearly gave me a heart attack. There was alot of torque on that thing and it was bending quite a bit. After I turned the 4 posts of the cooler to lock it onto the MB, I could still rotate the cooler back and forth slightly. Whether this is just the plastic housing thats moving and not the heatsink, I don't know. When trying to lift the cooler away from the CPU, there is no give.

Is this how it's supposed to fit?

I don't remember there being any wiggle on mine. I've since upgraded to a Hyper 212+ so I can't check. It's good you can't lift the fan away, but I'm surprised that you can "rotate the cooler back and forth slightly." Do you see the plastic feet sticking out the back of the motherboard?

I screwed the mobo down to the case already so I can't see.

I put the PSU in and connected all that's available and it stays on. I don't have any video out yet so I can't confirm any temps, but I figure if the cpu cooler isn't seated properly it would shut the system down automatically due to excessive heat.

Can anybody else confirm that a properly seated stock cooler wiggles a small amount?

you're suppose to put the posts into lock position then push the posts into the board then the pins. you don't have to do anything after that. the only time that you would turn the 4 posts is to unlock/remove the cooler from the board.

Helps to put the cooler on before you attach the motherboard to the case. That way you can see if it is on properly. Sometimes the posts bend and dont go into the motherboard or the they split (i.e. 3 parts) or the cooler does not seat properly.

Dont turn the posts. I concur with that. That is for release even thought the instructions are unclear.

My suggestion is remove the motherboard and inspect it visually. My guess is you dont want to do this.

I did this and saw that the points were not splayed apart properly. I didn't push down on the pins with enough effort the first go around.

I also looked at the directions again and saw that I wasn't supposed to turn the pins for install, only push. Silly me. If I see arrows on pins, I'm inclined to turn them.
