Description

WD Caviar Green drives use less power and support quieter, cooler-running desktop PCs and external storage devices. As hard drive capacities increase, the power required to run those drives increases as well. WD Caviar Green drives make it possible for energy-conscious customers to build systems with higher capacities and the right balance of system performance, ensured reliability, and energy conservation.

Features

Reduced power consumption - WD has reduced power consumption by up to 40 percent compared to competitors' drives with the combination of WD's IntelliSeek, IntelliPark, and IntelliPower technologies.
Cool and Quiet - GreenPower technology yields lower operating temperatures for increased reliability and low acoustics for ultra-quiet PCs and external drives.
IntelliPower - A fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance. Additionally, WD Caviar Green drives consume less current during startup allowing lower peak loads on systems as they are booted.
IntelliSeek - Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise and vibration.
IntelliPark - Delivers lower power consumption by automatically unloading the heads during idle to reduce aerodynamic drag.
Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) - Employs PMR technology to achieve even greater areal density.
StableTrac- The motor shaft is secured at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilize platters for accurate tracking, during read and write operations. (750 GB and 1 TB only)
Ideal For: PCs, external storage, and other devices that require lower power consumption and cool, quiet operation.

Be very weary of JustDeals.com, I have purchased two items from them and both came unusable and one was a friggin' disgrace. The first and second parts were purchased 6 years a part from each other. The first part was in 2002 I ordered a MOMO Force Feedback wheel (a brand new part as listed, not refurb/recert.) which came double-boxed but yet the part was in multiple broken pieces and was not even remotely usable! (there was no damage to the outer shipping box either). It looked like someone had just gutted it, really could not believe someone at this company could have boxed it up and shipped it out. That part would have cost $25 to return ship and that was half the cost of the part w/shipping - a bad deal for me. I had almost all but made up my mind that I would never order from them again until this past year. The other part was in 2008 I ordered a OEM MS Natural 4000 keyboard (not refurb/recert.) which looked in seemingly brand new condition but about 4 of the keys including left Shift were only responsive to key input 1/3 of the time. Check out their Reseller Rating it is full of negatives and a ton of broken part received comments.

Microcenter has new OEM at $160 btw. I bought several from them, and they all have been new three platter 00D6B0 revision, YMMV of course with the revision.

-The title says recertified and gives the price.
-I have used the vendor with success.
-It is a very good price for a drive of that size.
-In my experience recertified drives have not failed any more than OEM or retail - in fact the only drive failures I have had in recent memory were OEM drives and they were DOA.

If you do not have something constructive to add then ignore it and move along.

agreed.

The low price justifies the risk. You can always send this drive in for the manufacturer's warranty replacement

Are you sure? Where does it say that the drive you receive will be covered by a manufacturer's warranty? If JustDeals is selling drives that were removed from external enclosures or computers that were assembled by a large systems integrator, and putting them in anti-static bags, and calling them "refurbished", Western Digital will not accept a return.

But leaving all that aside, I agree with the others who say they don't want to take a chance on a refurbished drive. Even if you can get a replacement, who wants to go through all that trouble? I'd rather get a brand new, never used, not "refurbished" 750GB drive for the same price (or less).

HUH? who in their right mind would do that so they could sell them for less?

Do you really need to stretch that far to crap on someones thread?

I guess you've never seen the computer recycling/reselling business in action. You just assume that everything that's being sold comes straight from a factory?

And no one has answered my question: Are you sure that the drive you receive will be covered by a manufacturer's warranty? Why don't you buy one and let us know?

No, I don't assume anything, but apparantly you do. I would not hesitate to purchase one if I had a use for it, but I already have one.

The original post speaks for itself, nothing hidden, no assumptions, no editorial comment. It has already been stated that purchasing a refurb drive is a risk and that the price reflected that. If you don't like it and do not have anything constructive to add then stop trolling and move-on.

I have to chime in in support of "justdeals".

i have been useing them from like 7 years, maybe longer, i have probably ordered from there 20 times, and never gotten a bad product.

i have never ordered a hard drive though.

from memory i think i can list most of the items i have ordered.

logitech trackball marble, 4 refurbs all atleast 4 years old, and all still work fine.

4 logitech web cams 2000/3000 model and a few others, all refurbs, the first one i got over 6 years ago dies about a year ago, the other ones still work fine.

4 logitech wingman wireless controllers, all refurbs, about 3 years old, all still work great.

oh i forgot, they threw in a 5th wingman controller for free, 5 came in the box when i only ordered and paid for 4.

I have ordered numerous old motherboards when there was no where else to go, and all worked perfectly.

a logitech wireless keyboard that worked for like 5 years. refurb ofcourse

2 of the momo force feedback wheels, refurbs both still work today and are 4 or 5 years old.

3 logitech telephone headsets, all worked fine these were new i think.

several mice, wireless and wired, all refurbs.

1 speaker system. 1 joystick, logitech refurbs, worked fine and still work today, years later.

everything always arrived in about a week or so, and was like new, just had blck magic marker over the serial # to indicate a refurb.

Really i can't say enough about how i hapy i am with my purchases from there.

Most of the time when i ordered something it was about half price or lower than it would have cost me new, and worked like new and still does.

to reiterate i think i have had 2 items die at like 5 years old and both were used heavily and most likely just wore out.

a webcam and a keyboard.

looking at the rateings, maybe they have gone bad in the last few years, it has been probably like 2 years since i purchased anything from there.

I am not "trolling" (and you are not a moderator, so get off your high horse and stop telling me what to do). I asked a legitimate question. Where does it say that the drive in question has a factory warranty?

Taking a risk on a factory recertified hard drive is one thing, and it might be an acceptable risk to some people if the price is right. But based on the comments at Reseller Ratings, it is clear that not all of their products are refurbished at the factory; it sounds like they are selling used equipment that has been cleaned up and repackaged and sold under the label "refurbished". That calls the meaning of the term "refurbished" into question. I think that "recycled" MIGHT be a more appropriate description, pending further investigation. (That's not an "assumption"; that's an "hypothesis", which is clear from my use of the words "might" and "if", at least to people who understand the English language). Some computer recyclers are honest, and I buy used components from some of the ones I know. But I know better than to expect those items to have a factory warranty.

I feel like I'm doing people here a favor by asking whether there's any evidence that the drives being sold by JustDeals have a factory warranty. How about an answer that will settle the matter?

Sorry for the late reply.

I purchased a 500GB drive from this vendor under similar conditions. It came with the 30 days warranty. When I received the drive, i punched the serial number to find that it did have the 3 years warranty. The drive has been in use for about a year without a hitch.

In a similar way, I had a 250 external drive from WD. The drive crapped out so I had to dissassemble the enclosure (spent $10 on T6, T8 Torx drivers) and take out the hard drive. Again, I punched in the serial number to find out that it was in the 2nd year of the 3 year warranty. I sent the drive in and they sent me a 300gb drive.

All in all, I think there is bit of a trend They advertise 30 day warranty but in actuality they offer 3 yeas of warranty. I might have been lucky 2 times in a row so if ppl with similar experience can chime in, it might actually make this a good deal.

my 2 cents.

Thank you for the information. That's good to know.

I'm a little bit surprised that Western Digital will honor the warranty on a hard drive if you remove it from one of their external enclosures. I have a 400GB external drive made by "Elements", and the drive inside is not covered by a warranty from Western Digital. I would have to send the entire external drive to the manufacturer with the seals unbroken to get a replacement. But I guess it's different if you buy a Western Digital brand external drive (maybe because the drives weren't sold to another company?). And if you say that Western Digital drives sold by JustDeals are covered by a three year warranty (and you know that because you actually verified the warranty on a drive by checking the serial number), that's good enough for me.
