Well gang, the Purch community team has just delivered the final, official point totals to me for the AnandTech vs. Tom's Hardware race. The race itself was never in question of course, but none the less I was interested in seeing just how badly you could whoop the Tom's Hardware crew.

Team AnandTech: 296,180,869
Tom's Hardware: 212,467,005

My counterparts over at Tom's Hardware expected that even if their team lost, it would be close. They have been forced to take back those statements.

Congratulations to you guys both for winning this race, and rocketing up the overall standings so quickly. And Purch will be making the previously announced donation to Child's Play in Team AnandTech's name.

In other news, I just got back from the repairer for my laptop, my mainboard(motherboard) is fried. Cause: GPU thermal paste was not sufficient to keep it cool, aka last time I sent it away for repair, they didn't apply enough thermal paste. Solution: I am getting a new laptop with similar specs as The Warranty Group is unwilling to commit to repairing such a damage, I am also getting back the 1TB hdd that is in that laptop.
Specs of the laptop:
Acer V3:
Intel Core i5-4210U, 8GB DDR3L, 1TB, GT840m
So new laptop will probably have:
Intel Core i5-7200U, 8GB DDR4, 1TB, GT940MX or whatever the laptop version of Pascal is

I had 2 computers reboot on me due to windows update. I disabled the service, so I am not sure how this happened. Anyway, I lost at least 200,000 points due to this. Any other info on this problem ? I re-checked and 3 other computers had it enabled ! They turn it on somehow other than the service ? Its set to manual startup, and I have never enabled it, so how does this happen ?

I've got a win7 box that won't update , 24 hrs + on 'checking for updates'...same box that had the full SSD .Thing is totally unstable....I'm looking at bios updates too....That box is 750k ppd too...

Hi all,
I understand that you are about to restructure the teams of the internal race. In case your rules permit it, would you be interested to add a newcomer? About 1.5...1.6 M PPD are crawling out of the woodwork here, calling themselves xii5ku.
This is two CPU clients earning 1.4...1.5 M PPD together (two dual-socket Broadwell-EP boxes), planned to fold 24/7 for the rest of December, and a CPU + GPU client yielding about 100...200 k PPD together when running undisturbed, but those latter two will be paused during work hours.
This setup was already in operation during the week against Tom's, but it ran anonymously and therefore missed a boatload of bonus points.

The TeAm is still #6 in production.

It is very hard to predict how many points the TeAm will get before the race is over. But I'll do some advanced guessing some time before Sunday.

I had this happen many times. First, go into control panel and change windows update to NEVER, then reboot. Then Manually try. If that does not work, there are 2 updates, you can manually try, then then manually say "check for updates". Let me know if it works. If it doesn't then get:

Windows6.1-KB3102810-x64.msu and
Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64.msu

and apply each with the windows update OFF, then try again.

I looked at the stuff that Tony guy was selling, but it's too high-end for me. A 970 under $150 might interest me, but over that a 1060's just a better deal.

Now that the first part of the race is finished, I am going to shut down a couple of workstations at work. Too many questions about why it is so loud in my office and why my fans are always running at full speed.

I suppose it's possible to suspend F@H in the morning and resume it in the evening fully automatically. I.e. run "FAHClient --send-pause" and "FAHClient --send-unpause" from task scheduler, or something like that. (Haven't tried it myself yet.)

I for one have just one of my F@H slots running within ear range: A 150 W rated graphics card, which is realistically pulling only 120 W or so, fitted with a 250 W rated aftermarket cooler. It's inaudible under full load, but on the other hand produces mere 80 000 PPD.

December, 1 - December 31, 2015: 324 707 775 points
December, 1 - December 14, 2016: 653 303 463 points
Difference: ........................................ 328 595 688 points

In half the time (14 days) we produced more than twice as many points!
