In a earlier post, I cannot provide GPU grunt as it would heat up the entire house to over 40C, with outside temps hitting ~35C, and would probably kill a lot of my components, so all I can give currently is CPU grunt with 2 of my servers in the US. (Curse Australian summers, can we export our heat and import your cold air pls )

While I know you guys are going to win - I've seen you trash Slashdot, so Tom's Hardware is easy pickings - I'm going to provide a little extra encouragement anyhow.

I hope that you'll be stress testing the hardware laying around the "shop" with F@H the first week of December.
Maybe all the mod's should burn some dust bunnies out of their home stuff too!!

Orange kid, in case you are not aware, all mods are not employees, but volunteers, and moderate from their own computers at home ( I assume they follow work rules with their employers)

In my case, all 7 million ppd, and all 1,621,930,616 points I have accumulated over the years are my own hardware running out of my own house, and I pay my own electric bill ($371 was last month)

Wait until Tony turns his F@H farm back on. at least 6.3 million ppd more. And I am sure there are others in the same spot.
-----
I don't think you have anything to worry about....You , Pokey and Tennessee Tony could probably take our team right now.
Hehe , When I said 15 million ppd , I meant like, our whole team.

--------
I have a bunch of heavy hitters that are MIA right now.Hopefully I can get in touch with them.
Either way, it's fun to have some interest in folding again.

Looks like this season’s race is going to be a thang………………… (a memorable event)

I haven’t seen this many active Folders in a while. We are pretty equal with Tom’s in users now and points per day. Oh Boy!

Canucks may have some work to do……………….

Of course there is still about a week and a half before the race starts.

A week and a half to replace a dual socket lga771 motherboard, those don't come cheap btw. And buy 3 more motherboards to put 3 GPUs I have, into them, while wrestling with Nvidia's poor driver support for OpenCL

Ryan Smith, I have searched the Toms Hardware forums, and while I find what appears to be a distributed computing forum, I can find no thread related to this race. Is there one ?

Edit: I found their thread. It seems that they now have an insider ("Unolocogringo", who I think registered here using a similar name) And they are stealing our setup and troubleshooting information. We may have to resort to PM's to save confidential information. !!!

Here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-3229962/tom-hardware-team-thread.html

The war is on,

I mean the race....

Yup same name. Last post insults the Canadians ! Post 57 in this thread.

Nuke Toms !!!.

Mark, yes I know that the mods are volunteers. I was just trying to garner up a few more players in the game. Hey we are all really volunteers in the DC game.

Kiska, skip the dual LGA771 and get two singles. Hmmm, gonna need an additional PSU though....or a splitter! Cardboard boxes make great chassis (plural form, however that is spelled. )

Mark, Ryan Smith ain't no volunteer....He's the Alpha Wolf. And at a snap of his fingers, he could have all the other paid employees of AnandTech "benchmarking" all the hardware they have in the lab on Folding. At least for a week.

Well it all depends on whether the hardware can withstand the Australian summer which I am not hopeful of, and I think both Tony and Mark have my phone number

Have you considered underclocking and undervolting? Keeps things running while keeping them cool.

Also, even without A/C, leaving the case side cover off, and running those type box fans helps a lot. Even though its 50f outside now, I have a box fan exhausting air out from my computer room, and its still 75f inside with half the windows and doors open in the house.

NOTE: In addition to my sig, I have 2 24 thread boxes doing WCG also at the moment.

Well I can tell you that underclocking and undervolting will have absolutely no effect on the Australian heat. Since well today its 31C or 88F and in the next 2 weeks it'll only get hotter. AND Xeon Tcase is 66C, also I have no air conditioning, so yeah heat it not being moved very efficiently. And it is forecasted for 1st of Dec, to be 39C or 102F

Have you considered a window air conditioner? I live in the mountains where it never gets much above 80F outside, and I have one in the room with (most of) my computers. I guess you might run into problems running it and too many computers at once, but that's more than what you can run now.

I can run one of those evaporator thingy's not sure how that'll go. Window air conditioning is still very expensive. Last quarter I only paid A$230 for electricity

Showing my age, but when I was young we used one. We called it a swamp cooler. Worked Ok for humans but I think not so much for inanimate objects...........
