You may want to reread my posts and find where I said that. In fact, I stated the opposite but you seem to be hell bent on arguing. I encourage you to reread my posts again, but this time perhaps a bit more thoroughly.

You might want to read them yourself. You didn't fully express your stance until later in the chain.

Wow, that really sucks. Really, what is the deal with some people. You are 24 years old, you can't find something better to do than kill people in a movie theater?

Uhm, you dumbasses saying CCW would have stopped this, this guy was in a fucking dark lit theater, used a smoke grenade device, HAD ON BODY ARMOR AND AN ASSAULT RIFLE. Do you honestly believe someone with a concealed pistol would have stopped him?

I'd have damn well tried. I can't speak for anyone else.

Rather than gun ownership the thing that strikes me about Americans is how angry you guys are.

The tales of road/consumer rage just on this forum are pretty shocking, and the way you guys act about political issues seems bizarre sometimes.

There's pretty much nothing you can do about gun ownership there, there's way too many of them sloshing around the population and it's not like there's an expiry date on them.

Just try, as a nation, not to take everything personally. That guy who you've never met, who's trying to pull in front of you isn't trying to insult you, he's just trying to get to work. Just let him in and move on with your day. The guy with different political/religious views to you didn't pick them as a criticism of yours, he just looks at the world differently. Just accept that different people like different things, it doesn't mean one of you is wrong.

In short, America you're an angry, angry country, it's time to chill out.

As an American, I agree with you. We're an uptight bunch of angry hypocrites who should "LIBERTY!" when it comes to gun control and thumps their bible when it comes to marriage equality. This country embarrasses me sometimes...

Yes, except he wouldn't have such easy means to massacre 12 dead and 38 injured without guns.

It's illegal to murder people, yet he did it anyway.

In your fantasyland where it's illegal to have a gun, what makes you think he won't obtain one anyway?

Obviously the dude was psycho and didn't care one bit about following the law.

Nothing...but imagine there were 50 of them with a CCW!! Oh man, that dude would have been sooooooo dead.

And quit talking sense!! Don't you know these people you're arguing with most likely have a CCW themselves! Who knows what they'll do if they get angry

That's under the assumption that those with a CCW license wouldn't be the idiot that's doing the shooting in the first place. That's also the same bet that was taken when he was sold the firearms.

I understand your argument:

Good people don't shoot other people.
Therefore good people should own guns to prevent gun violence.

The question is, though, how do you know who's a "good person" and who's not?

Statistically people with ccw's never commit crimes.

Stopped? No

Slowed down to allow more people to escape? Sure

Do you think body armor makes you immune to bullet impacts?
Do you think the sounds of bullets going by your head doesn't bother you because you know you have body armor on?
If someone was shooting at you, wouldn't you try to find them and shoot them first?

I also hate the term assault rifle. You mean a semi automatic rifle with just 10 rounds more than my semi automatic SA XDM?

Good. Now tell me what would happen if you increased the number of people with CCW's:

A massive decrease in crimes involving gun violence or an increase?

a CCW isn't a magic pill against violence. The reason it works now is because it requires a (usually) more thorough background check and sometimes other restrictions. Being lax with the requirements means you get more idiots with a CCW.

What fantasy land? It's Korea and Japan. As civilized as US and Europe, if not more. Most of US is backwoods (I know this, because I went on a 63-day cross country trip), and NYC is TINY (I know this, because I live in NYC and lived in Seoul).

Did you miss my point, my fellow Mafia friend? People don't die in tens of figures in countries where guns aren't allowed. That's a simple hard fact. US had fvcking VT, Columbine, this, and far more to count in the last freaking 18 years I lived here, WTF?

And I'm saying just that. I'm a proud motherfvcking American myself, but that doesn't mean I'm god damn blind to how the rest of the world operates.

Decrease, just look at all of the states that have expanded ccw in the last few years and seen a reduction in crime.

No one has talked about the mental health issue and health insurance. If the gun man turns out to be mentally ill, then it is possible he is the risk we took when we decided not to have universal health care.
The best detector of mental illness is a primary care doctor. People who don't have health insurance and use the emergency room for health care are far, far, more likely to have mental illness not be diagnosed. ER doctors don't get to see a patient for more than a few minutes and only one time.
We as a country decided a while back that mental illness was expensive to treat and so we decided to basically ignore it unless a person was seriously visibly ill.

The saddest part about this whole thing it's that the perp will be alive, well fed, well cared for and all on our tax dollars in the near foreseeable decade.

That, ladies and gents, is the real tragedy.

RIP citizens.

Guns need to be banned and made illegal like cocaine. The 2nd amendment needs to be completely abolished.

And yet you're more likely to get shot by the cop.

I'd rather risk getting shot by an on-duty officer two minutes after an incident than die during said incident.

But hey, that's me.

And I'd venture to say that you're wrong. But whatever, it's the internet. Everybody's an expert, right?

Just talked with my friend, he didn't go to the movie last night but he does live about two blocks away from the guy's house. At least he's safe.

.

People with CCW's aren't immune to idiotic behavior just because they carry a license. They're less prone to it, sure, but that changes as soon as you increase the volume and you're back at square one.

I'm a firm believer that it isn't the guns that are the problem but the people. To somehow state the CCW's aren't "people" but "super people" is fucking retarded.

Of course they are not immune, but have you seen what is required to get the permit ? It isn't pay a fee and you get a permit like many think. They can and will turn people down if they have substance abuse, or anything in their background that implies a violent nature like domestic issues, trespassing, just about anything can be used for grounds to deny. The training course is 8 hours long minimum. When I see someone with a permit I know that at least they took the time to go through the course, have had a background check , are not a felon, that puts them above the average guy who just buys a gun.

In NC it takes a lot of steps to get the permit.
Most people are not going to go through the trouble.
successfully completean approved firearms safety and training course which involves the actual firing of handguns and instruction in the law governing the carrying of a concealed handgun and the use of deadly force;

has not been convicted of an impaired driving offense within three years prior to the date on which the application is submitted.

No one said it was a magic pill.
Well, except gun haters. They make up fantastic arguments like that and then refute them.

I just wanna be able to defend myself if something horrible happens. I may still get killed, but I'd rather take my life in my own hands rather than rely on fat incompetent cops who are 15 minutes away, or worse on the average bystander who is much more likely to film me being murdered than calling 911.
