He's right though. Something is wrong when any murderous dumbass can walk into a shop and buy shit that's only reason to exist is to kill other humans.

how much you want a bet that the gun was black market anyway? From what has been said sounds like it might have been an automatic, any confirmation?

Unlikely to be black market...and idiotic use of the word "automatic" is normal for these situations

I would seriously doubt the gun was "black market." The shooter had no criminal history and there was nothing to prevent him walking into a gun store and buying it - why would he wade into the shadowy underworld of unregistered secondhand guns? I would actually bet a small sum (say, $50) that he either bought it from a sporting goods/gun store or through a garden-variety secondhand source (e.g., the local classified ads).

This is just extremely sad...this is so similar to the Virginia Tech shootings in some ways, a crazed gunman wants to make an impression and people have to die as a result. This guy said he was pretending to be Joker.

All guns bought legally and the AR-15 had a 100 round magazine.

Source: Colorado shooter had 100-round rifle magazine

He had on full body Armour and a ballistic helmet. It might have been even worse.
CNN has a article describing a theater as a kill-box.

Interesting - the guns were bought at Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shops, two longtime, mainstream sporting goods retailers. No "black market" found here.

If it wasn't a gun, this smart fella would have figured out how to get a hold of some sarin gas(or other similar style weapon) and pulled off a Tokyo Subway style attack. oh noes we better fear education nao

I dont know about Jim Holmes but the Virginia Tech shooter was very angry about pretty much everything in his life and looked down on Americans as pathetic. He looking to vent more than make a statement. He didnt wanna survive the event. Holmes seems to be enjoying the press and attention.

This is so similar to the VA Tech shootings, a disturbed person wants to prove something so he shoots and kills a bunch of people....this guy said he was trying to prove that he was the joker

Pathetic losers like this guy are only tough with unarmed people.

If you think you are bad ass, go to Afghan or Iraq and take on the Talibans/Islamic extremists.

You never hear about losers like these called ahead to the police station and said they would be there in a few minutes so the police better be ready.

Wow, did CNN just write a guide to maximize killing in a theatre?

"The very nature of theaters makes them perfect killing zones," said Howard.
A shotgun would do more damage among a tightly packed theater audience because its ammunition comes out of the weapon in a reverse funnel shape and would disperse across a wider area, according to Howard.
In a theater scenario, he said, "so many people's heads are lined up next to each other that if you fire down these rows of people ... one blast is going to kill or seriously injure 10 or 15 people, depending on a number of variables."

No weapons expertise would be necessary to execute an attack such as the one in Aurora, said Howard, a former U.S. Border Patrol agent. "Any idiot can do it."

Frankly I don't think this incident had one scintilla to do with him feeling like a tough guy. An angry guy? Maybe. A frustrated guy? Perhaps? A crazy guy? Very likely so. A tough guy? I don't see it that way.

He could have maximized his killing if he would have carefully planted bombs. Guns are very inefficient.

Yep. I'm sure it takes more guts to kill Iraqi's using drones from miles away than walk into a crowded theater. :\

My fond memories of that Theater now gone.

My wife and I spent time there in 2006 and watched movies like X-Men at that theater when I worked in Denver. Stayed at the extended stay nearby until we got an apartment in the city.

Love Denver but boy they sure have their share of these type nut job shootings.

I don't mean (in this and similar situations) tough in a sense of strong, muscular, physical and mental fit, rough and tumble/gritty tough.

I mean it as bullying/push around the weak(er)/etc. ONLY because he'd got a gun vs. the innocent unarmed mass with zero warning.

See my second and third sentences about fighting the other crazies (Talibans) and well trained/armed individuals (Police) if they think they are bad asses. I haven't hear anything otherwise. Losers like this guy only dare to attack unsuspected and unarmed folks (VT, Columbine, Sweeden, ect.)

amdhunter, this is not P&N, take it there if you choose.

Boy, that didn't take long:

In the next few weeks, as investigators piece together exactly what happened, the victims of the attack will likely also think about potential lawsuits.

Another potential target for civil lawsuits would be Century Theaters, where the shooting took place. It was reported that Holmes entered the theater through an emergency exit before throwing off gas canisters and using at least two guns in the shooting. One may wonder just how Holmes got in through the emergency exit and if the theater did enough to protect the crowds. That said, metal detectors and pat-downs aren't standard at most U.S. movie theaters.

While movie-going is usually not a dangerous activity, the Batman premiere was a midnight showing and Century Theaters likely should have expected large crowds.

As a business that is attracting a late-night audience, Century Theaters owed a duty to its patrons to keep them safe. So steps like keeping emergency doors closed and having security personnel to conduct pat-downs of ticket holders may have been a good idea. Then again, it could be Century Theaters took all the reasonable precautions.

It's still not clear what safety measures Century Theaters took, but James Holmes allegedly made it into the theater while armed to the teeth. One can only speculate if enhanced security measures could have prevented the Colorado shooting.

this is what happens when people are allowed to buy guns

That's what they're hoping most sheep think when a brainwashed armed robot(oh I'm sorry, I mean a crazy guy) wearing protective tactical gear kills 12 people in a theater. Maybe they can put the TSA in theaters now. The "joker" might get ya.

My condolences goes out to the families that lost loved ones due to this. It makes me sick.

heh

'keeping emergency exit doors closed' - do they mean locked? yeah that's not a problem at all... emergency exit doors are always closed in a theater, people would complain about the light.

didn't they say he bought a ticket, sat in the theater, and left through an emergency exit. i really don't think the theater can reasonably stop the guy from stuffing a napkin or something in the lock so he can come back in.
