got my 12x delta @ cc for $20. i wouldn't be surprised if they bring that deal back for xmas, they had it a few times during the summer.

btw, the delta sucks for cdrs, cds in general, but works fine for DVDs, and thats all that matters for $20

You might want to keep an eye at Circuit City B&M stores...I picked up a HiVal (so it is a no name...who cares!) 16X DVD-ROM Drive from my local CC for $39.00 + tax. It plays decent and runs nice and quiet...

Actually the brand is BTC, a very generic Taiwanese brand. I recommend to stay away from this brand.

My Delta DVD is not so good. It does not even support DMA (at least under my XP), and it's noisy and slow. However, it plays DVD OK.

I've had two different delta CD drives.... both are suck... I wouldn't recommend Delta

so BVD is actually BTC... hmmm. i recall i have a dodgy 40x cd-rom drive that was either BTC or IOMagic (free after rebate) anyway its junk now. cant read nuthin'

NextHardwareShop.com has some good deals on 16x DVD/CDRom players. Some under $50.CD/RW are cheap also. They were good with me. Shipped fast.

hmmm.. my BTC burner works fine, though i don't use it much- it seems to work 100% fine so far.
however I do not like the samsung 8x DVD drive that i have.. takes forever to spin up and sounds like a nuclear reactor x_x
BTC is for people on a budget, yes, but that doesn't make them complete crap..

Why go with one of those "no name" brands.

Surf on over to Pricewatch and click on DVD Drive, then All in Catagory.

You'll see a Creative Labs model for $29, a Toshiba for $29, and a Pioneer for $33. I went to the Pioneer web site and the drive has pretty good specs.
