I'm buying a Norco 4224 case and I'm going to use the replacement fan mounting plate Norco sells that holds 3 120mm fans. Does anyone have suggestions for 120mm fans that are quiet ut still can do the job? These fans are going to be used in a environment with a good deal of static pressure. Some of the fans I've seen suggested in various posts across the next are: Noctua NF-P12, Noctua NF-F12, Scythe SY1225SL12LM-P, Corsair Air Series SP120 High Performance Edition CO-9050008-WW, Scythe-d1225c12b7ap-29, Scythe GentleTyphoon D1225C12B5AP-15. I'm open to other suggestions for fans.

I use Sanyo Denki 109P1212H401's

I'd either do Sanyo Denki or Deltas, both have excellent P v Q v Noise ratios.

scythe gentle typhoons / nidac gentle typhoons, are the best fans you can get for its class.

It has been tested many many times, and unless u want super quiet fans, you can not beat a gentle typhoon for its noise / performance ratio.

Now if u want really powerful fans, 38mm trump all... some of them also have very good noise / performance ratios as well like sanyo's and panflo's but they are thicker then the normal traditional fan.

The first problem with GTs are they are discontinued. The second is getting even non-discontinued models in the U.S..

Noctuas will run quietly, at low RPMs, but even their CPU cooler line don't handle blockages very well. Great for quiet PCs, if costly, but I'm not sure they'd work well going against HDD backplanes.

Of easy to get PC fans, I think the Corsair SP120-PWM Quiet Editions are your best bet, with a mobo that can control enough of them.

Noctua are very expensive, unless you also need some accessories (at which point they are still moderately expensive). I got a couple for my case, and while they are nice, I think way too much of the cost went into the packaging.

Wait, 1150, in stock? You mean they unkilled them and are getting distribution here back? How did I miss these developments?

So, OP, ignore my earlier post, and get some slow GTs (800 with plenty of intake room, 1150 with many HDDs). They will do a great job, and are every bit the quality of fans used in big OEM servers (many of which are also Nidec ball and dual ball fans).

I think the GTs are just old stock. No AP-14s or AP-15s. I debated pickup up some more AP-15s when the discontinued announcement came (Frozencpu had about 600), but now they are gone.

They probably are NOS. There was a discontinuation announcement some time back, but at the time, Scythe had no U.S. distribution anyway. Now it looks like they do again, and their site lists the GTs with no discontinued notice. I wonder if they are just going to list them until they run too low on stocks? The Grand Flex were intended to replace them.

I'm skeptical the slower rotating GTs can suck a decent amount of air through the 4224's front. those drive bays aren't exactly spacey.

38mm fans may be a crappy idea depending on what your build is. if your board is EATX and you manage to squeeze 38mm fans into there without some ridiculous forcing of bend radii of your cabling, I'd love to see it.

25mms are already pretty tight if you mount them on the drive side of the fan bracket. pretty sure 38mms can't clear an EATX board if mounted on the MB-side.

This. I'm using 120x38mm low speed Panaflows in my 4224 just because I had some still lying around unused. Gentle Typhoons would be fantastic as well. Make sure to block off the routing holes in the back plate once you are done. It forces more of the air through the fans since the chamber is better sealed.
