If you really think you need that you should also buy some ERS paper.

Rubycon! You're alive!

BTW Dr. Pizza, I think I'm going to invent a cable that uses 0's and 8's. That way, corners should be less of a problem. 8's are much more smooth than 1's.

Plus if an 8 falls over you go to infinity!

If you divide the cable when the 8 falls over, will it disappear (become zero)? Hmm, that could be really environmentally friendly. Just shunt in a whole bunch of unstable 8's and divide the cable to get rid of the waste!

Off to the patent office I go!

Don't forget the special anti-aliasing algorithms to match dither with your descending signal as crosses the zero.

NO OP you NEED to pick one of these up!! You haven't experienced HDMI quality till you've paid 700 bucks!

I actually have this cable.

At first I thought, what sort of complete moron would pay $700 for an HDMI cable? I mean, this could only be marketed by unethical jerks and purchased by rubes who also believe in Corinthian Leather.

Boy was I wrong! I mean sure, the cable did reach the entire 6.6 feet it was advertised to. But then, both video AND sound came out of it. Like some miraculous A/V faucet. It fit right into both sockets on the TV and DVD player perfectly, like it was made for them.

But once I got bored with that I started checking out some of its other value-added features. You can tie it into a knot in case you need to tie something in a knot. You can use it to spank your children if they start trying to touch your TV or DVD player. I was able to pull it tight between two fixed objects and hang 6.6 feet of wet laundry from it to dry. My neighbor came over and I was showing off NASCAR on my sweet HDMI powered TV, but he kept getting distracted by the cable. Once I explained to him that this was 6.6 feet of miracle, he was like, "I wish I had one." Then he killed himself. That part was sad, especially since I didn't get a chance to tell him where to buy it. He didn't have $700 anyway so it might be for the best. But his wife saw it too and now we are dating. When I go to church, I like to use the cable as a belt because I figure a cable this good must come from God and he would enjoy seeing it again.

Look, this HDMI cable changed my life. And it will probably change yours too. In a good way, i mean.

[snip]If the zeros and ones arrive you have a perfect digital signal. If they do not arrive you have no signal, so if you get a picture it will be perfect and if you don't the cable doesn't work. A 5 dollar or a 100 dollar cable transmit only zeros or ones and they come through or they don't. It doesn't make the slightest difference of the zero is loud or soft, fuzzy or clear if it is a zero and is read as a zero it's the same zero regardless.[/snip]
Thanks, I was going to ask why everybody was saying that it was digital so it didn't make a difference. I didn't really know how HDMI actually worked and now I do, and get why digital will either be on or off and no "fuzzy" option.

we actually had a completely separate power system for our audio system. different tie to the main building input, different transformers in a different room that were on their own concrete pad and isolated grounding on the opposite side of the building from the main grounds. Separate conduit and orange plugs in the building.

in an 1100 seat theater.

none of our cables were gold plated.

Have a look here: http://www.hdmi.org/consumer/buying_guide.aspx ... it describes the various types of HDMI interfaces and which spec cable should be used for each. Also look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI

Buying Guide

Here are a few tips to help you shop for HDMI-enabled products:
HDMI Version Numbers

Version numbers such as HDMI 1.3 and HDMI 1.4a are primarily of interest to manufacturers, and not very relevant to the consumer. Instead, it is recommended that you focus on the specific features and capabilities of the product you’re buying, and not worry about which HDMI version is supported. Keep in mind that every HDMI version is backward-compatible with all previous versions, so you can be assured that any new equipment you buy will always deliver the highest level of quality that your existing equipment supports.
Choosing the Right HDMI Cable

When it comes to selecting a cable, the HDMI version number is never relevant. There is no such thing as a “Version 1.4 cable” or “HDMI 1.3 cable” - these terms are solely the creation of manufacturers’ marketing efforts. Cables are instead rated by their performance capabilities. There are five HDMI cable types to choose from:

  • Standard HDMI Cable - Designed to handle most home applications, the Standard HDMI Cable can reliably transmit 1080i or 720p video plus surround audio.
  • Standard HDMI Cable with Ethernet - Same baseline performance as the Standard HDMI Cable, plus a dedicated Ethernet channel for Internet connection sharing and device networking.
  • Standard Automotive HDMI Cable - Designed for internal cabling of motor vehicles equipped with onboard HD video systems.
  • High Speed HDMI Cable - Designed to handle video resolutions of 1080p and beyond, including advanced display technologies like 3D and 4K.
  • High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet - Same baseline performance as the High Speed HDMI cable, plus a dedicated Ethernet channel for Internet connection sharing and device networking.
Each of these cable types should be clearly marked with a distinctive logo, as shown below. These Cable Type Logos are designed to help you easily identify the ideal cable type to support the capabilities of your equipment:

Well, I don't know if you're the only idiot, but spending that much on a cable would probably qualify you.

Seriously, when I put my system together some years ago, I insisted on spending way too much on high-end connectors and cables. Over time, these have been replaced by much less expensive products, and no one in my household can detect a difference. But hey, it's your money-spend it as you see fit.

Monoprice has what you need.
