Will BB price match the CompUSA $99 price if I bring in their flyer? I've been to three local BB's & they all have the drives at $180 Really annoying cause there are 3 CompUSA'a within 5 miles of the three stores...

at least you have a CompUSA near you and you can still get it for $99 , you just have to send in the rebates.

Best Buy is not losing a dime , I am not sure why they brought the price back up so quick.

Yesterday I offered to scan a receipt and send it to someone if they wanted to host it. I accidentally deleted my Pm's and forgot who pm'd me. Anyone want to host it still?

PM if you do!

I had my E-mail confirmation in hand for Best Buy when I visited my local Staples this morning. Even though the letter said "out of stock" at my local Best Buy store, the price of $99.## was clearly indicated. My staples had 2 of the 8 mb versions of the drive. Staples said they would want to call Best Buy to confirm they had stock and verify the item. Since I knew the store was out of stock, I didn't proceed with the transaction.

Again, if anyone has received the E-mail confirmation which indicated that the drive was not in stock at their local store, but if you call BB, they will send the drive to you with no shipping charges. I think this is a good alternative, if you have that option. If it's true that the BB stores are raising the price back to $179.99, then keep this option open for yourselves as it may be your only option in getting the drive for $99.##.

Well.. I just got back from hitting 2 BB's in the north suburbs of Chicago. It was a bust at the Vernon Hills and Deerfield store. I asked one of the CSR's at the Vernon Hills store if he expected any more in soon and he said that he didn't think so because it was on special and they wrote a bunch of rain checks for it. I looked at the shelf tag and the $179 tag was there, but no $99 tag. I tried ordering from the in-store order center and it still wanted to charge $179, so I said forget it.

Now.. Does anyone know the particulars of this deal? How long was it for? Was it in last weeks flier? I didn't hold much faith in it ringing up at $99 today even if there would've been one on the shelf. I had this happen to me before where it was on special, but the special ended as soon as the doors closed on Sunday and was long gone by Monday.

Anyway.. Congrats to those of you that got the deal. It was a good one.

Unfortunately, the price has been bumped back to $179.99. I just confirmed this with the on-line BB rep that was handling my order. If you were luck enough to place an order either yesterday or early today - or, picked a drive up at the store, you are in luck. However, the price has changed. I guess I'm a little confused why the deal lasted only 1 day. But, I can see where BB can do a lot of damage to CompUSA in 1 day by offering such a cheap price - they'll take a lot of the shine off the CompUSA sales price for a few hours.

Yeah I just got back from my local BB and they had three. I grabbed two and they rang up at $179.99.. confused I asked wth was going on. The PC guy said the price had been raised back up. This is the same dumbass who I asked yesterday "will you be getting more"... "yes".... "will they be on sale all week", "yes.. all our sales run Sunday to Saturday.".

I'm going back tomorrow with receipts and heading to customer service.

It must've just been a 1 day unadvertised special. This happened with a Logitech wireless desktop not too long ago. It had been ringing up for $50 on Sunday, but by the time that I got there on Monday, it was ringing up for $100 again. I grabbed the shelf tag showing the $50 price and talked the CSR into overriding the price tag for me. I then headed directly over to CUSA that was having the same deal for $50 after rebates, showed them my BB receipt from minutes earlier and was able to get them to PM to the $50 and then send in the $30 CUSA rebate. That was pretty sweet.

Anyway.. I think that this is the same sort of deal as with that Logitech desktop. I wish that I would've seen this post before 4 o'clock yesterday though. No telling if my BB would've had stock or not, but it's wishfull thinking.

I guess you win some and you lose some. Again, congrats to those who got the deal.

That guy you talked to sounds drunk, rain checks are only for ADVERTISED items and this was not advertised at all.

If you got a raincheck you must be really lucky also. Since they're not supposed to give you one. I asked 2 different guys and they were happy to do it, until they saw the note on their screen.

Well I got back from the WInston-Salem, NC Best Buy and had no such luck. I told them a "buddy" in <your city> got it for $99.99 at the Best Buy in <your city>. The price was still 179.99 though. I picked up a 60 GB for $60 after MIR if anyone is interested. Maybe this deal was regional b/c the sales rep said the price has always been 179.99. Oh well...

I got the last one on the shelf at the Aurora, CO store at 10:21 this morning. Its got the P6Y3 code on the side panel and the blue sticker on the front.

First I went through the checkout line and it didn't ring up at the sale price, so I went back and grabbed the shelf tag. I talked to the CSR at the computer counter, he did some checking, and said he'd sell it for the $99.99 price. On the way up to the counter he had his supervisor sign off on the price adjustment, and he says to me, " I don't know why you're smiling-somebody's gonna lose their job because of this." I thought, yeah, right, spare me the BS.

Black Friday came early for me this week...this makes up for my waiting six months for my VisionTek rebate last year.

That's IBM hard drives and Iomega zip drives. Maxtor hard drives have an excellent rep these days.
I wouldn't really say that, I think all manufacturs have their problmes, just back up, no matter who makes the drive. I had two 80gig Maxtors ( 1 7200 & 1 5400 ) die in a two week time frame

Some manufacturers have more problems than others. To be fair, I have sent in 1 IBM and 1 Maxtor. The IBM went the way of the click of death. The Maxtor was an old 9 gig that hadnt been used for a while and when I finally did go to use it, the computer simply wouldnt boot with it plugged in, weird.

After reading this post on Sunday, I went to my local BB at Braintree, MA at 3pm and there was only one drive left. I saw there were 3-4 people around the drive thinking whether they should get it. But it's too late, I grabbed it immediately. I still remember when they stared at me with an angry look. Anyway, I brought the 10% off coupon too so the total came to 89.99 plus tax, what a great deal. I still haven't opened it yet, but the box has a light blue and blue label that says 33% faster, I hope it's a 8mb drive. (someone confirm?) On Monday, I called Cambridge, Landmark Center, Watertown and Dedham and all of them don't have it in stock!!! So I tried to pricematch CompUSA and they said that BestBuy has switched the price to 179.99 and that was only a speical one day sale! Since I can't get 2 120gb for my raid setup, maybe i should sell this to my friend and get the wd200gb for 220 - 10% instead
