Wellz, went home and called bestbuy.com to see what's the deal. The CSR said that she could cancel the order, place a new order for $179, and then charge my CC back the $80 when it ships. But its on backorder now, so thats 5-6 days she'd say b4 it ships, and since its ground shipping, thats another 8-10 days :| ! God dam bestbuy! I commented that that's a LONG time, the CSR said i can choose next-day shipping for an extra $8, fock that! Alkso asked if i could use my 10% off coupon, she said they can't. ARGH!! not so hot anymore! Was suppose to get the drive today with 10% coupon, now is ONLY warm.

Well tried to get CompUSA to match my BB instore pick-up paper, but they said "if you placed the order online, we can't match that. The price they will PM is the price that rings up at the register, and the item must be in stock" Neither of these are true anymore. BB is OOS, and the price is back @ $179.

Hmm.. you still get the drive for the cheap price, so why are you complaining so much ? Sure it's a little bit of a hassle but christ, for that price I really don't think you can complain about that one.

No hassles, pillage? Just right off the shelf, $99?

NO hassle. Just printed an online copy of the price and show it to him. He matched it part by part and was telling me that the does not want to give me the 8Mb one as that's more expensive and yada yada. Little did he know that I was having the 8mb cache right under his nose. He was kind enough of letting me grab two. Went to the cashier, paid and all smiles.

They still had the shelf tag on the shelf, no drives left. So I asked for a raincheck and customer service said no raincheck because this was not an advertised special.
So I went to the computer department and the guy wrote me a raincheck for $99. They'll get more drives in on Wednesday, he said. For what price, he didn't know, but that's where my raincheck will come in handy.

They pulled the shelf tag after I got the raincheck, though.

Sweet! Hopefully Wed morning rather than night, I'm driving through there so I should probably stop by and check. Maybe'll they'll reprice it again...

I was at my Local BB (New Hampshire) today for this and the Shelf Tag clearly said $99.99, but they had none in stock.
I had them check all stores within 50 miles and none had any.
The Manager who happened to be helping me said he expected a computer truck tonight, but couldn't be sure
the drive would be on it. This indicated to me that he at least planned to keep them at this price. It's only 6 miles away so I will stop by tomorrow.

Worse case is I go to CompUSA and buy with with the rebates. It's good until Wed. and they do have plenty in stock when
I called. For this price I would even get two if one showed up at BB on Wed.

Before changing my online in-store pickup order, I wanted to see if any of my local stores would get any of these drives this week, so I called and spoke with the inventory manager. He indicated that theses drives aren't on any of the shipments listed for the week (in West Covina, CA.) Of course, no way to tell if he knew for sure though, but he seemed pretty sincere. Call your Best Buy and request to speak with the inventory manager to find out if your local BB will get any this week.

The deal is ONLY dead if the shelf tag is pulled. If not, you can get a raincheck if you're persistent enough. For me, the computer department "guy" helped out; customer service was telling me they could not computer-generate a raincheck. The computer department rep filled out a raincheck by hand, that guy kicks butt. Just be persistent. If you can get a hold of that shef tag, you're golden or a wuss

The price in the register at the store near me was always $179.99.
They manually changed it.

It was up to each individual Manager how they wanted to deal the match to CompUSA.
When I talked to the manager at the store I went to he said they were not ordered to change the
price, but were encouraged to. I know of at least one store in Mass that never changed to $99.

And it is still not dead! Just go to CompUSA and deal with the rebates. It's still $99 until Wed.
If your local BB doesn't honor it or get in any more.

I went to BB in Mission Viejo @ 11am, it was priced at $179, I asked the salesman to please check with a manager, still came up @ $179. Walked down the street to Compusa, they had it for $99. after a -20 instant savings-30-30 rebates, I bought the flyer back to BB, but the manager said they wouldn't PM. So I bought it from Compusa, but when I looked at the rebates, each $30 rebate needed the original packaging UPC bar code, not a copy! There is only 1 UPC on the box, the manager gave me an instore $30 rebate from compusa, so now I only have to wait for the Maxtor rebate. The sale ends on the 27th!!!

Double check with CompUSA. They will probably tell you they will take a copy of the UPC. You may want to do that by email to have a 'record'.

Talk about quick service. I ordered at their terminal yesterday like Cowboy mentioned and chose instore pickup even though they were sold out. Then I thought I'd get like an out of stock email, but they said it was ready for pickup so I went down there and they had my drive ready. Pretty nifty eh? I bet they had more but the employees took all of them, since they most definitely received a shipment. Too bad my card was maxed out bleh

As I stated a little earlier, the last BB store I talked to just late last night said the drive was $179.99, but they would PM to the CompUSA $99.99 price. This was from a manager. He even asked me if I wanted him to hold the drives for me. I had said I needed 4. Apparently, Corporate has left this up to individual store managers to decide. So, YMMV. Obviously, people have been getting different results online and B&M.

But, the deal is also obviously not dead.

Now I bet those old hard drive upgrades weren't much but once I switch to this raided setup, man that'll be one heck of a speed increase I can't wait to see. I hope to continue my hard drive upgrades at this rate! lol yea right. first upgrade was 4x size, next one was 3x size, next was 2x size, and if the pattern continues my next upgrade will be 1x size. which sounds about right anyhow

For what it's worth, y'all, you can still try to PM at BestBuy to COmpUSA's ad. I took the ad in and actually got them to PM to a 120GB WD drive, since the Maxtors were all out. (My ad didn't specify the brand).

So anyway, the moral of the story is to give it a try... might even work!

Got this drive at Best Buy (Security Blvd, Balt. Co.) last night. Shelf tag read $99.99, rang up at the register as $179.99. Stupid clerk at checkout said I had to go to Cust. Serv. to fix it. So I went and grabbed shelf tag and went over to get the price fixed, which the girl there did. No questions asked, since I had the shelf tag right there.

Just an idea here, buy a drive at BB for $100, buy a drive at CompUSA for $160, return the best buy drive to compusa for the $160 but keep the rebate reciepts and send those in for a $40 drive. Don't know how ethical that is and I am certainly not going to do it but whatever floats your boat.

Compusa Maxtor rebates are only for Compusa, as stated on each rebate, and remember they both state that must have the Original packaging Upc bar codes, each saying in writing " NO COPIESOF UPC BAR CODE" or rebate will not be honored. Be firm with the manager and he will give you an onsite rebate because the logic of only 1 Upc bar code per box.
