Well, I just tried at my closest Best Buy in Orlando, FL

The manager showed me their printed policy pamphlet and it specifically states that they will never pricematch other stores' rebates. I know this manager was just being a PITA because I actually grand opened that particular store when I used to work for Best Buy a few years back. It is their official policies but most employees just ignore them. Unfortunately, this guy wouldn't budge so I finally just left. I'll have to try at the other local stores when I get a chance. Good luck to everyone else...

Law Beefaroni, Ask to speak to the sales manager, and be firm about the logic of 1 UPC, and both rebates demanding the original packaging, he shouldl give you an onsite rebate for the compusa rebate, remember you have to be firm!!!

I picked up two units yesterday morning at BestBuy for $99.99. When I went up to cashier they rang up to like $190 a piece after tax or something, I almost crapped my pants! I said the Yellow Best Buy Card on the shelf reads $99.99, so the manager came out, and get this wrote down on two receipts price match cc (circut city) heh, I then took it back to another Best Buy here in town and said I didn't get my 10% price match from cc, so they rerung it up giving me $8 back for each, then she gave me a normal receipt that says I paid $91 per unit, I go to CompUSA they price match it for me and I still have receipts! : )

Oh yeah btw will Bestbuy price match their own receipts?

That would be cool if they would.

Thanks for the kick ass deal!

I tried that angle this morning. Since I ordered the 120 GB drive on-line, but picked it up at my local store about an hour ago, I thought I would try to get a 2nd one via price matching. The manager said they would not match Bestbuy.Com prices - so, no-go for me. If you have an actual copy of a receipt for one of their stores, you could try the match and probably be successful since it isn't a Bestbuy.com recept.

However, I do have some other good news for my fellow Northern Virginian Homies. I was able to price match + 10% at my local Staples store. Yes, folks, I picked up an actual 8 MB cache drive from Staples for $89.99 + tax. Here's a link to my receipt: Click me for the receipt
Keep in mind, the receipt scan is for drive package 'L01P120' which is the 8 MB version of the drive that is being sold by Staples for a normal price of $199.99. Talk about sweet, huh? Good luck with your price matches.

Now, I need a favor from one fellow Anandtech member out there who purchased the 120 GB drive from CompUSA. I need to get a scan of your receipt from your drive purchase so I can work out some more deals to post on the forum here. Thanks!!

I just ordered one for In Store Pickup...hoping it would still be $99.99. The first confirmation email shows the price is still $179.99. I will wait for the second which actually confirms that the item is being held and see if there is a change in price. If not, I will call store and ask if they will adjust price...if no, cancel order. Never leave the house!!!

actually that's not really accurate. Sustained transfers don't generally require more than 66MBs, however, transfers from cache (which is why you'd go for an 8mb drive) typicaly saturate the bandwidth provided by ata-100 and probably realize benfits from ata-133. That said, cache transfers do not make up a substantial portion of drive use, so switching from ata-100 to ata-133 will not produce a huge difference.

I'll be willing to bet that your 2nd confirmation E-mail states the price is still $179.##. BB.Com adjusted the price in all of their systems, so the discount appears to be over. However, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you anway.

Deal is not dead!

Tuesday 1 pm--

I just got back from Best Buy. They were out of stock, but they told me they could order it and then pricematch it for me in the store. So they ordered it for $179, marked it as paid at the warehouse, and then charged my credit card $99.99+tax in the store. My printout from the warehouse shows it will be dropped at my door on 12/2 and that it's paid in full. I'm sure it won't be cancelled since it was a store manager override and not a web order. Sweet!

Thats odd...I am looking right now at Staples price match policy....it says nothing about rebates as far as I can tell...(well, anything that applies at least).

That's why you need to look a little further up in this thread where I've posted a receipt for Staples - where I picked this drive up for $89.99 + tax. 'wje' will hook ya' up.

they wont pricematch, they are not carrying the SAME DRIVE, the drives staples has ( luckily i bought 3 of them) are 8mb Cache and they are retail $199 and the drives at BB are SUPPOSED to be 2mb Cache. So i guess someone did some diggin up and found out.......

Does anyone know of any hot deals on divorce lawyers? If I keep reading these forums and buying stuff I am going to need a divorce lawyer real soon. Good deal, I think i am too weak to resist.

Again, look a little further back into this thread. I posted a receipt about 2 hours ago from Staples. The receipt is for the 8 MB version of the drive and I paid $89.99. Yes, Staples came down $110.00 on their price when they gave me the price match.

ok it's official...just got off the phone.
Compusa both $30 coupons want original UPC code. The lady on the phone said she's gotten like 10 phone calls related to that question today.
She said send a copy of the upc code to compusa and the original upc code to maxtor. You guys are lucky who didn't have to wait for the rebates, etc. Anyway for those who still want it for $99 you have today and tomorrow to get the 120GB 2MB cache at Compusa.
compusa link
I'm gonna try to get that CC $89 120GB deal also on Friday.....if I wake up on time that is.

Also for those looking for a firewire external case the best I could find was at svccompucycle.com (sp?). I ordered an me720 for $49.99. They also have the me320 for same price but newegg wants $69. USB 2.0 is pretty much useless if you want the speed. So stick with firewire.
