P6Y3 is on the box a 2MB box and thats not the 8Mb sign ..so Maxtor says. They told me what to look for that there was only (1) thing that they have on record that tells them that its a 8mb drive and its on the drive it self under the model#.

All those that were P6Y3 were 8mb cache. Ask anyone who got it.

but i got a receipt with the date showing 11/27/02, and its says "Reg 179.99 Adjusted to Store Price" AND it doesnt show when i actually ordered online... so if this might help anyone, i can try to get my receipt scanned ....and if any one wants it jus PM me or someone can host it..... also i went to office depot, jus to see if i could price match w/ my receipt and they said no prob, but they didnt have the 120g model

MaluMan,

Can you please post your receipt? I tried to get one but kept giving me the following message:

Unfortunately, the items you ordered were not found at our store. Please contact our Customer Care representatives at onlinestore@bestbuy.com or toll-free at 1-888-BESTBUY (1-888-237-8289) to check product availability at other locations, or we'll be happy to ship those items to you free of charge.

I verified THREE times with the online CSR that the store did indeed have it in stock over a couple of days! So I went and got one but the manager would only give me the regular price! I was hoping if I could show that other stores were selling it for $99, maybe they would give me the difference back.

Thanks much!

Bringing in a receipt won't help either, the deal is over. It only lasted a little over 24 hours actually. They now don't have the item in stock and even if they did, they marked it back up to the original price. I brought in my receipt from the online order to get a raincheck and he almost gave it to me until he checked with the manager. He then said that this wasn't an advertised item so they couldn't give rainchecks. It was a market reaction to *coughs CompUSA coughs*.

Well, Since I picked one up already, I was thinking about saying they overcharged me and try to get the difference. May not help but it is worth a try. They may decide it would be better to give a little back then lose the whole sale if I return it. The worst that can happen is they won't do it and I'll return it. Right?

Anybody got a receipt in Houston they can scan or email?

Thanks!

Stayed up all night and at 6 am decided to head to my local Best Buy (didn't stay up for that though..just for the hell of it playing games). Anyways, I did the in-store pickup on this drive a few days back and received a confirmation for $99.99 but they said the store was out of em. Went there during this black Friday sale and saw one left and grabbed it! Went to the return/exchange counter, asked the nice girl if I could purchase the drive and showed her a print out of my email I received from Best Buy.com Got the price lowered from $179.99 to $99.99 easily. SCORE!!!

I'm probably going to receive one that was shipped out on Monday or Tuesday...I'm going to try to price match that one too by bringing it into the store...hope it works.

Yeah, I will probably stop by Best Buy, because I need to do the same. I ordered off the website for $179.99, but then e-mailed CS and they said that I could return it for $179.99 and immediately repurchase it in any store. Here is the e-mail if anybody is interested in using it if they are having trouble getting the manager to adjust the price:

Chester,

We apologize for the difficult experience you had with your online order. We
at BestBuy.com currently do not have a price matching policy in effect and
are unable to match the price of the retail stores. However, you can return
this item to your local store, or take in the order receipt, and repurchase
immediately at the lower price. Unfortunately, we are unable to credit this
price difference online.

Thank you for sharing your comments with Best Buy. Please do not hesitate to
contact us with additional questions or concerns.

Best wishes from Best Buy,
Ryan and the Customer Care Team

I have the whole e-mail which I started on Sunday, but it would be far too long to post in the thread. If anybody wants it, just e-mail me at chester@nolovenohope.com and I can send it to you. Can people post receipts of their 99.99 purchases when they get a chance?

My $99.99 purchase price receipt is kind of vague. This is the receipt that I received when I picked up the drive at my local store. By vague, I mean "non-descriptive" (e.g. - no details of the actual item, just some Best Buy wording, the purchase price, tax, and the final price.)

If wje can't hook you up, I can.

I agree with wje - if you're going to buy out all the local stock and then try to profit from it here, well we'll be here to make sure you don't.

If I can't offer an item to another forum member for my cost (including tax, gas spent, and shipping - what I have in the item) then I won't offer. If I'm asked, I'll state what I have "in the item" and what price I would expect. If someone "offers" a few extra bucks in return, I won't hessitate accepting - but I won't gouge other forums members. That's just plain wrong....

Just wonder how long it will be, before the "definition" of capitalism reads, "...; 3) an American means of acquiring wealth by f-cking everyone else you do (and do not) know; 4) [slang] lacks ethics.... "

K-squared, if you want to unload a drive, I can throw you a few bucks extra. I don't know how to PM or get somebody's e-mail on here yet, but throw me an e-mail at: chester@nolovenohope.com or give me yours.

What? You don't like living in our wonderful country? Seriously, $150 is a great price on this drive at the current moment. Heck, even Outpost.Com was selling it through the end of today @ $199.99 - $30 (mail-in) Rebate = $169.99 as the final price. As most people will agree, $150 is a very, very good price.

Oh you got it all wrong my brotha I love this country.hehe........... No seriously, i bought the drives thinking of ebaying them, but since the deal is dead and there are no more drives like these to get out of the door in retail box for $150 i thought it was fair price,so i offered here first. I do my share of good things Anyways.

No I just got mine today.. there were 3 @ BB.. but they were all the 2 meg versions. They were priced at 179 but I got the sales clerk to bring it down to 99 plus tax 108. Not bad. Not 8 megs.. but I'll take it.

Not all BB are like that. My local BB-Ogden, Utah, have pretty nice employees. Maybe it was the day after Thanksgiving rush and they were all stressed out-BUT that doesn't give them the right to be so rude.

Anyone here feeling 8MB cache envy, I will be glad to buy your measly 2MB drives so that you may be free to pursue your real passions. I know there are some here who will constantly obsess over their measly 2MB drives, knowing the speed and satisfaction that a true 8MB cache would provide. Let me help you with your stress and feelings of cache inadequacy

I got the one for $99 at compusa. Bought an external firewire enclosure and it freezes after 20 seconds or so then resumes a little while later. Anyway I screwed it up by preparing it as removable storage. PM8 coughed hard and it was all down hill from there. I took it back as defective but they were oos. A store half an hour away had seven still in stock. Problem was it was 8:38pm and they closed at 9:00pm. I broke all speeding records and made it there at 8:57pm. They let me in. This was the night before Thanksgiving. SICMLTGWIGWIGI (So I consider myself lucky to get what I got when I got it ftwdk).
