120gb HD CompUSA Sun 3/15 ONLY $79.99 after $30IR & $40 MIR

For those that missed the Staples deal, starting Sun 3/15 CompUSA has the 120gb for $79.99 ($149.99 - $30 IR - $40 MIR). These are CompUSA branded but ususally Maxtor.

My guess is these are the 2MB version. I say this because they are probably in the generic CompUSA box. While Maxtor probably doesn't have a problem putting 8MB cache drives in Maxtor 2MB boxes, I doubt they would put 8MB drives in CompUSA boxes. This is just a guess.

when I went to my local to grab the PNY GF4ti4200 deal they were boxed in Maxtor retail pkging ..I asked ..the CompUSA manager said that's them..pointing at about 20 of them on the top shelf..

I recall reading that someone here bought one of these deals awhile back, and the box specifically stated it was a 2 meg cache with 1 year warranty. and when he got the drive home, it turned out to be an 8 meg cache with 3 year warranty.

The model on my 8MB/3 Year Maxtor box was L01J100, and the box specifically said 2MB and 1 Year. You have to look at the vertical code on the sticker. The 8MB ones would have, at least on the Maxtor boxes, a code of P6Y3. I don't recall what the code for the 2MB drives was.

You say, starting Sun 3/15, when today is Saturday 3/15. I assume you mean Sunday 3/16 when the new ads usually start.

The 2MB versions have a four digit code listed sideways (or vertical, if you prefer that description) starting with an "L". The 8MB cache version code starts with a "P" as noted above.

They have this deal going on at Best Buy also just to let people know. Had a Maxtor box, but only year warranty for some reason. Didn't look too much into it so dunno. They had only like 2-3 at my local Best Buy.

Err correction. A bit different deal. BB has a 100GB + 20GB for $120 w/ $40 MIR.

Is there any problem with the rebate if I get this when I bought the 120GB with rebate that
was at CompUSA a few weeks ago? Is this considered a "different" rebate or will they say
"sorry, only one rebate per household"?

Just came back from tacoma store, ther ewere 4 hdd on the shelves, 2 were the 8mb P code and 2 were the 2 mb l code, when i left the store I saw they had a table with like 50 on it behind the counter and some burners so i asked if i could look at the burners, the ones on the table were mixed, ymmv i guess


oh, and they are maxtor boxes

ack! one year warranty!

I found a 80GB last week that was 8 MB and 80 GB/platter.
