120GB HD w 700MHz Athlon possible?

I know this is gonna sound dumb to most of you guys, I just started visiting
AT and I'm learning. I have a pretty old pc and I'm wondering if there is any
problem with installing a 120GB hard drive. As in, will my machine even
recognize this drive at full size? Thanks.

Probably ok....it really depends on the motherboard you're running.

Yeah depending on the motherboard. But you can always flash it. Or get a separate ATA card.

shouldnt be a problem as long as your MB supports it,

if not, as mentioned above, you can always get a controller card

thanks, guys. How do I tell my mobo so I can download a BIOS update if necessary?
I just got this PC secondhand from a friend as my old dell kicked it. I don't see any info
on the mobo during startup.

Also, in a separate question, do you know anything about these CD-Rs:

Pine 40x12x40 (says "Drive by Hitachi")
vs
Khypermedia 48x24x48

Both were FAR deals, just wondering which is better.

go with the hitachi drive.
If you open your case up and your CPU is like the old P2 then it prob won't support the bigger drive unless you update the bios. to find out bios info, right when you power on, look at the screen it should say something. hit the pause break button on your keyboard to pause the boot up and look at the screen. Also, i'm sure someone here knows the name of a mobo monitor program that can tell him thru windows.

If your cpu is the square type then the 120GB drive should be fine on your machine

my cpu looks like a long deck of cards, and it looks exactly like my old P2.
So I'm guessing I need to get a BIOS update.

Thanks guys. I found a program called FreshDiagnose that worked well for me. I updated my BIOS successfully and the 120GB HD is working great.
